Just got back from watching this and what a cracking movie, Its an unusual take on the normal boxing movie in that it starts with the main character being the champ rather than challenger, won't go into too much detail in case you haven't seen the trailer (don't watch if u haven't it gives too much away) but I will say Gyllenhall is an actor i haven't really noticed much over the years, off the top of my head I couldn't name a movie he was in but there was a lot of pre movie press about the shape he got himself into for the movie and that was correct, he looks amazing...probably too chiseled for a fighter, also mentioned were the boxing scenes and again correct, the most realistic I have seen in a movie but it was his acting that impressed me, he really did the whole spectrum of emotions in the movie and really was top drawer oscar material...the little girl who played his daughter was magnificent too and Forrest Whittaker...well he is always top drawer for me ....The fact i was so impressed with the lead is all the more remarkable because he was overshadowed in pretty much every scene he had with the young actress and Whittaker...cracking story...great acting..really cool soundtrack and I would recommend it highly
