You never watched Breaking Bad did you? :) That will just be the clips they chose for the trailer taking him out of context. He's a brilliant actor.

I really like how this looks, they seem to be avoiding a lot of cheap blockbuster stereotypes. Usually the hero in these would be a twenty something scientist who graduated top of their class at the age of 7, with model looks and a tight T shirt.

Or if they didn't go that route it would be a young parent with annoyingly cute kids that they must save.

I really didn't like the last western Godzilla blockbuster. This one is getting my hopes up. :)

looks like it could be borrowing from "The Host", which isn't a bad thing :)

God awful, hollywood stereotypes abound, people actually laughing at the movie which is never a good sign, wont mention particular bits but really really bad. The monster itself was HUGE! I mean even the monsters are obese now? and the "bad guys" wholly unimpressive ......really really disappointed as this was the movie i was probably looking forward to the most :(

How is it in comparison to Pacific Rim?

Have indeed. Paper thin characters (the best of whom are hardly in the film), which is fine if you're going down the Pacific Rim route, but not when the tone is super-serious and the monsters - specifically the title one - are hardly in the film. Conversely, if you're not going to show much of the monsters (much like Edward's previous film, erm, Monsters) you need strong character development and motivation. This was pretty much thirty minutes of unresolved family melodrama followed by an hour and a half of a bland army grunt trying to get back to his criminally underused wife (criminally because it's Elizabeth Olsen, who would have made for a more interesting lead than Kick-Ass).

For all of its faults, I had a lot more fun with Pacific Rim. I was literally grinning like an idiot (much to the amusement of the Mrs) during the fights in that one. With Godzilla I was doing my best to stifle a yawn... The CG is good and I had no real problem with the design as some have (have you seen how ropey some of the 'Zilla suits look?), but effects don't make a film.

As for the screening, I kept wishing a kaiju would step on the annoying little brat and his dad behind me, who seemed to think it was okay to carry on a conversation throughout the entire film as if they were sat in their own living room. You expect it from kids, but adults should be publicly flogged. Or, y'know, asked to leave, whichever is quickest/easiest. Kid seemed too young for the film as well.

I'd argue that he couldn't have made for a worse lead than ATJ.
