Fair enough, many other films are more suited to regular camerawork, but the whole point of Cloverfield is that it is filmed from the perspective of someone on the ground with a camcorder. If it had long, steady tripod shots it would lose all believability.

I`ve never really had a problem with shaky-cam though.

^what he said. ;)

Like I`d said previously, if the camera was following the Army, researcher, newscrew, it would probably have irritated me, but in the sense of the film I think it added to the claustrophobia. In fact it probably wouldn`t have worked aswell with the same story but "normal" camera work. Again my main contention is the fact that it`s apparently lazy, which I`d say is wrong as it has used an inventive way of telling the story rather than having camera as a gimmick.

I`ve actually spoken to quite a few people who got motion sickness from the film though (my mates girlfriend was actually physically sick). I`d seen the warnings aswell and thought it was one of those just in case disclaimers, like careful this coffee is hot.

Every episode of Seinfeld either has an picture of reference to Superman.

Is Seinfeld therefore a lazy remake of Superman?

The camcorder was a valid narrative device. I`m not arguing with that. I simply think it was overdone. It would have been (IMHO) better to use the camcorder more sparingly for sequences that really needed the visceral quality the camcorder footage gave them.

1mills, mate. We get you disagree with Basbat`s "lazy" comment, but this is turning into a browbeating. Give it a rest. 8) ;) :) :B

Not until he changes his opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o ;) :p :D

You obviously don`t venture into the football forums much. Maybe I spend to much time there. ;)

One person makes an opinion. Often outlandish.

Someone disagrees.

Then one of two things happen.

a) Both sides backing each other then proceed to repeat themselves making the same point, agreeing to disagree is not really an option.

b) One side sticks to their comment and refuse to listen to all evidence against and often ignores everything that proves them wrong (or gives strong argument to the opposite opinion), and will then either pick up on the smallest detail that they can actually answer or refuse to give a counter argument at all to the opposite opinion.

Edit- Although saying that we`re still talking about Cloverfield, so we are sticking to the title subject, which is most definately not in line with football threads.

Jesus this thread is hard work, the last 3 pages have got my head done in :)

In my opinion Cloverfield is to Godzilla what Signs was to Independence Day. Completely unrelated films but C and S `could` be viewed as 1 group of peoples perspective of the events of G or ID.

I liked Cloverfield for what it was but i watched The Host the same night and thought that was a far superior film.

We watched Cloverfield on DVD last night, really enjoyed it. hated the first 15 mins, seems like a crap teen drama, but then things started blowing up so it got interesting :)

We enjoyed this, enjoyed Romero`s Diary of the Dead, but I hated Blair Witch, thought that was massively overhyped rubbish.

I didn`t like the Hollywood Godzilla, Jackson`s King Kong, Independence Day, or War of the Worlds remake.

As enemyonpc says above, it`s a different film to other films, which could be described as being similar.

Haven`t seen Host but remember seeing trailer ages ago and thought it looked good.

Can cross 1 off the pending pile now :)

[REC] is excellent, and so is Cannibal Holocaust, if you like mockumentary horror.
