Brilliant film, brilliant quote.

I thought it was okay, but I`m sick to the back teeth of caricature diamond cockney geezers.

cliched, but good. it`s a shame, but seems that since mr ritchie glorified the London Underworld, people think that that`s the only thing that British movies are good for.

which, like I said above, is a shame as good old 28 Days Later was bloody awesome. As was Dog Soldiers.

I would disagree with that. Yes, lock stock did kickstart a new boom in (bad) UK crime films, but we have a great pedigree in that area.
Mona Lisa, the long good friday, brighton rock, get carter, villain etc, etc.. I`m waiting for THE great modern british crime film. it must come soon.

the other thing I would disagree with is this,. Quote:
good old 28 Days Later was bloody awesome. As was Dog Soldiers.

28 days later, would have been a lot better without the army nonsense at the end.
dog soldiers would have been a lot better without the dogs, the soldiers, the werewolves, the pertwee, and the money to fund its making.

I`m not a fan of 28 Days Later or Dog Soldiers either. Though I think Lock, Stock is superbly written and directed, and Snatch is almost on par.

It rolls along pleasantly, and you have to appreciate its unwillingness to succumb to gratuitous violence. But it`s crippled by that British obsession with making everything seem more American; which converts, pretty much directly, into weird delusions of grandeur: note to Matthew Vaughn, cinemascope and Lisa Gerrard do not an epic crime saga make. But for a novice, posh, English bargain basement Michael Mann, he equips himself okay until utterly bottling it with an ending so bad it's like he just gave up.

Daniel Craig is excellent of course, and lets just say it's better than Guy Ritchie`s entire back catalogue rolled up into one tight bundle ready to be hurled with considerable glee into the bin.

I quite like this film. It`s probably worth watching to see Daniel Craig show why he shouldn`t accept the role of James Bond... he`s too bloody good to be typecast. I did get the sense that Vaughn was attempting something grand here, but it`s just a crime thriller. But it is it`s own beast.

Still think Snatch is the best of the "Gangster" films, only because it`s one of the few films I can watch and laugh at most of the jokes again and again.

And 28 Days Later is great. 8)

Dead Man`s Shoes is supposed to be really good, but I still haven`t seen it (always out in the video shop whenever I go in, Blockbusters only have one DVD copy, but 100 DVDs of Hitch >:( ). So I`ll just be waiting for it to be in the sales at this rate.
