E4 - free for ever (if you didn`t already know)

Bunnster (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 26th May 2005, 07:37

From tomorrow (Friday) coinciding with the launch of Big Brother 6, E4 will be available on Freeview and you will no longer have to subscribe via TOPUPTV. This will be permanent.
I assume the same sort of thing applies to SKY and Cable, though I have never had those so not sure how it works on them.
Enjoy!
p.s. anybody know if TOPUPTV will be replacing E4 with anything else as that was one of the main reason for paying my £7.99 a month?

Apparently E4 will still remain on Sky as a paid service so you can only get it for free on Freeview.

Also, someone posted on another forum that TopUp TV would be making an announcment shortly about what new channel they will be adding to the service to replace E4.

I would love it to be FilmFour even if I had to pay a bit more, but I know it won`t be, so any guesses or rumours?

If you do an update to your Freeview Box, you`ll find that E4 is unchanged on C14, I guess they`ll just switch off the subscription tomorrow. In addition, I think it`ll be on 24 hrs, instead of the channel share it is now.

On C39 ish, you`ll find E4 +1
On C49 ish, you`ll see Topuptv new ch.

Neither are broadcasting anything as yet.

Freeview gets better all the time Recently Men & motors now E4 , not amazing channels but something other than soap s*** to watch.

I hope I can get E4 as I can`t get ABC or Extra view where I am in Wales because of S4C2 which is the second worst channel on freeview only beaten by the community channel.

Some may have to do a re tune like myself as my Echostar box is not Top up compatible and does not tune any of their channels in.

And the sheer joy of knowing that you`re not adding yet more to Murdoch`s massive heap of cash.

I did a new channel search on my Phillips On Digital box last night and that didn`t pick up `Men & Motors` or `E4+1`. Not that worried about the former, but `E4+1` would be nice . . . is it cos it`s not Topup TV compatible ?

Not if it`s an old On Digital box as these do pick up the Top up channels and will display an insert card message on any Top up channels.

Check again on Channel 38 and 39 if they are not there try another re tune.
