RE: Far Cry 2...Xbox 360

It`s pretty sweet so far. You`ve got to put comparisons with the first one out of your mind and enjoy it for what it is.The gameworld is much bigger and so there are lapses in the action sometimes but it`s a refreshing change to have a breather and plan attacks a bit more than your normal FPS.
There are some nice new touches like your body showing your wounds and the way u can carry your map as your walk along.

RE: So... what are you playing just now?

Trying Fable 2 ,Uncharted Drake`s Fortune and Little Big Planet.Fable 2 is good so far and Uncharted is a bit `join the dots` gaming up to now.The multiplayer on LBP is confusing the heck out of me.... :/

RE: Mirrors Edge

Had this on order but cancelled it after the demo.If u like games that put pressure on you all the time this would be OK, but it`s a bit too `full-on` for my relaxed gaming tastes. :B

RE: So... what are you playing just now?

I`m on `The Bigs` for the 360.It`s a lightweight arcade baseball game and pretty addictive.
Also just started Okami on PS2. Very dull intro but looking good. :)

RE: Had a go on a Wii ..

I have a 360 and a Wii.Don`t play much on the Wii due to it being a bit too much effort to control the characters.I play games to relax and so standing up waggling your arms doesn`t do it.

The 360 I`ve also stopped mostly.Technically it`s good but the games are so serious and po-faced.90% seem to be shooting people in the heads.

I`ve actually gone back to the PS2 and Gamecube as they have a big stock of fun games.

The PS3 is tempting as it seems a bit of a half way house with some good arcade style games like Rachet and Clank and Uncharted. With the price of them coming down by the month and game library slowly increasing I predict it will be the biggest console of 2008.

RE: The Legend Of Zelda: Twighlight Princess

:/ I`ve been extremely dissapointed withthis so far.I`m about 3 hours in (on the first set of bug collecting) and it`s been completely linear, with no exploring and slightly confusing fighting.
I`m going to keep going and hope it improves and opens out.I`ve much prefered the likes of Dragon Quest 8 and Dark Cloud 2 up to now. :¦

RE: Free DVD recorder and money off with any LCD TV at Amazon.

The £85 is before VAT is taken into account. It takes off £100 total.

I`m (Snookums) a bit dissapointed to get no positive replies whatsoever to an LCD TV and DVD recorder for £135!

RE: Today`s Music

There is still good music out there in my opinion. The charts is mainly for 15 or unders.Stuff for over 25`s rarely gets in but is still being made. There are well known ones like Nick Cave,Sigur Ros and Interpol and numerous others (many seem to be Swedish for some reason!)

RE: Anywhere to get cheap Gamecube games from? Plus any recommendations?

I`ve played Zelda a bit on the Gamecube and find it very frustrating. It`s sometimes very hard to see what to do next.I`ve spent about 2 thirds of my time on going back over areas to see if there`s something I missed.
I think it`s just my play style.......just to tell you it can be annoying for some players.
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is an excellent action RPG and my personal fave.Pikmin 2 is a great thinking game and Animal Crossing is very unique if you don`t mind a slower pace.Baten Kaitos is a nice action card battling game!Zelda Four Swords or Final Fantasy Crystal are excellent if you have a couple of gameboys to join to the Gamecube.
I`ve tried about 60 of the gamecube games and these are the ones I enjoy playing the most. Some of the big name ones like Metroid Prime I don`t get too much `fun` out of playing.
Hope that helps a smidge

The current US Survivor on Challenge.......the best piece of TV I`ve seen in my 31 years.

Hello there,I don`t know if anyone is watching this series of Survivor on Challenge. It is the deepest, most thought provoking and downright important programme I`ve ever had the fortune/misfortune to watch.
It is at the same time totally absorbing and totally frustrating. It has on it possible the nastiest most evil guy u are ever going to see....the Rich guy. Also a old guy called Rudy who has a bit of a thing about `queers`,unmarried couples etc etc (i.e back in the stoneg age.It also has some of the nicest most decent people you`ll ever see in Colleen,Greg and the basketball playing guy who`s name escapes me.Needless to say they have all been voted out by the Rich guy ganging up and forcing them off.
Every important issue in modern society is covered in this show.
I cannot praise it highly enough.I never cry at any TV........I`ve shed a few tears at this one though.
My life feels changed by it......it`s that good.......does anyone know where I can get a box set of it anywhere?
Trust me guys and gals.....this is Biblical stuff..........genius........

I`ll stop now.

RE: Pool......anyone mad keen on this game of the Gods?

Crikey Chewie.....100 games in a row against anyone is pretty amazing.......never to go in off the black or make a silly mistake. There are 3 options here....1.You are the best pool player in history, 2. You are the luckiest pool player in history, 3.You are playing the worst pool players in history. ;)

The snooker v pool debate is a popular one.I just consider them as 2 diferent beasts.
Snooker is about 70% technique,30% tactics......and pool I would say 30% technique,70% tactics.
I used to have a couple of frames of snooker before my pool matches and it made the pots seem like tap ins in the matches.
Another pearl I`ve come up with is that pool tactics follows a circular pattern.By this I mean when u first play the game u just pot every ball u can see, then when u start playing in matches u roll balls over bags, play cautiously etc. 90% of match playing pool players will stay at this stage for good.........however....there is a final stage....... u eventually return to potting because u get far better at getting bad balls out, getting out of snookers etc.Virtually all the County A/England players u see go for the clearence at the first oportunity (especially with world rules of course).

A point about the break....:I used to absolutely launch the white, smashing the balls all over the shop.......however balls only went in bags about 50% of the time and it was very hard to keep control of the white....so I`ve started doing a new break.......This involves breaking from the side of the baulk line at the second ball in the pack with a bit of bottom. The idea is to screw the white off the side cushion and back into the pack. The advantage of this is that u can hit the ball fairly gently and yet the pack will still braek open well. Also the white is very unlikely to in-off.Balls still go in about 50%.

oops I`ve been yabbering on........but I could talk all night about pool.......hahahaha.

Cheers for the advice on the queues guys.

RE: i need a holiday where do i start?

Hello there,
After spending ages trawling through dozens of holiday sites a couple of years back I found the site mentioned below.Holidaysbyphone.com is the best holiday site by a mile in my opinion.I got 16 nights in Florida for £199 and 7 weeks in Portugal for about £300.This has hundreds of last minute deals. If you can`t find what u want on here u won`t find it anywhere....... ;)

Pool......anyone mad keen on this game of the Gods?

Hello there,I know it doesn`t have a lot to do with DVDs.......but anyone else here play in pool leagues around the country?
I`m looking to get a new queue and don`t know if it`s worth spending £250 on a hand made one or whether a £90 Jimmy White one (reduced to £50) would do.Anyone found any advanced tactics to help win games?
It`s just a great game with far more to it than it would appear.. 8)

Any good 8 speed dual format external DVD writers about for £100?

Hi there,I want to get a DVD writer with the above specification. Are there any good ones about? When are 16 speed ones going to coming out and will any be around the £120 mark?
Thanks for your help Ele.

RE: Culdcept on PS2- Anyone played this little weirdo?

Howdy pardners,Been playing this a while now and it`s excellent...There`s a mass of strategy. At the end of each level u win a few cards that u can place into your pack for the next battle. This means that u have to get rid of some too......During the fights it`s a balancing act between keeping good monsters in your hand for fighting if u land on an enemy square......or placing them on the board to trap the enemy when he lands on that square.....ah....many options.
This does play very simlar to Monopoly and I`d go as far to say if u like the board game u should love this.... :D .
One problem......it seems insanely difficult! I`m only on the second level and have just been hammered by the computer guy......who never seems to make an error.I hope this doesn`t ruin the game.I`m sure it won`t as every other aspect of the game is quality.
This is a real `gamers game` for someone looking for something fresh and who like sto think......hmmm. 8)

RE: Anyone here with a GP32 that fancies doing some beta testing?

I`ve got one but haven`t had much success getting things to work on it.What does the beta testing involve?

Culdcept on PS2- Anyone played this little weirdo?

Hello there,I`ve just been trying this game and it`s rather entertaining. It`s a cross between a board game (with several similarities to Monopoly) and a card battling game like Magic the Gathering.
There are 500 different cards and in theory it should be the direst worst game ever......however......it feels a bit different and could be a right little belter.
The presentation is excellent and the gameplay is extremely addictive with the potential for loads of strategy but also some tension.....as there is an element of luck as to which cards you`ll get and where on the board you`ll land.
This certainly won`t have mass appeal but I reckon it could be a cult hit....for those strategists in the mood for something a little bit....strange.

New Statesman Series 1-4 £15.99 and Complete Thin Blue Line £7.19

Hello bargain fans.......these both seemed good value at Amazon.co.uk.Both did reasonably in the Top100 sitcoms recently.Haven`t actually seen TTBL myself but the New Statesman is good stuff....and 26 episodes for £15.99 seems good value.
Cheers from Ele.

For Sale: Wildcard for the SNES ,CD64 and DoctorJr for the Nintendo 64 for sale.

Hi,I`m looking to get rid of these to create space in the house.Anyone got any offers for any of these?
Cheers from Ele.

RE: Fire Emblem - contender for best GBA game

Level 17.......the one with the pirate ship... is a right swine. If any character gets injured the enemies pounce witht about 6 separate attacks and wipe him out.The flying Pegasus woman gets killed with one hit from an archer too........bah....It`s turned into a bit of a puzzle game......one wrongly placed piece and it`s curtains.
Just being trying Balders Gate and it`s quite a faithful recreation of it`s bigger console versions.Mario and Luigi looks good too.

RE: Does anyone collect anything as well DVDs? (PICS included)

Hello there,Nice collecting Haggis! Is that red figure on the second shelf one of those 6 million dollar man figures where u look through the bionic eye thingie?

Not surprisingly I collect elephant things.....yawn........but I might start on Action Force figures from the 80`s.Anyone remember those? There was several different types of `goodie` figures.......underwater ones, army, space and .........another one.The baddies were like stormtroopers but all red and the main baddie was dressed in white with a helmet that looked like a dustbin.Should be able to pick them up cheap nowadays
Oh yes Sitting Pretty.....my girlfriend also collects anything to do with Roxette..

RE: Just started playing Metroid on the Gamecube....

I`ve just started it too and there`s some very nice touches ......like the little insects that are trying to escape the spaceship with Shamus.I`m just on the first boss creature.Apparently the next level is more open and pretty spectacular......

RE: Rik Booth banned??

Hi folks....Can we not just talk about DVD`s and games?.........I saw City f God today.....and it was....good. :/
Both people involved have contributed many useful posts......group hug,get on with it and start a debate on DTS,Dolby doodahs.....and Superbit thingamyjigs.......
:)

RE: Cult Movie Review Site

Yes,A totally disturbing site .......but in the opposite way intended by the makers of course. To make something like this u have to fairly evil IMHO. It`s worrying the way religion gives people the excuse to do just about anything. If there was one set of people you wouldn`t want to babysit your kids.........it`s this bunch...just about level with convicted paedophiles.
Even with the complicated analysis they use the ratings seem totally random.
The Talented Mr Ripley is for me the most amoral film ever made and yet it gets an average score......the Bond movies score worse..
The image of sweaty 50 somesome Texan blokes salivating over every exposed chest or four letter word.....under the banner of protecting children.....is really repugnant.....yuk!

RE: Recommend me some Anime please

Ah ha,Glad we`ve got an anime/Miyazaki thread going here.I`m going through a box set with his films on and finding it a bit hard going.I desparately want to like them but I haven`t seen one I`d consider to be a personal belter yet.
Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa are full of about 1000 characters with totally unmemorable names.......mega confusing for someone of my limited intelligence.
My Neighbor Totoro ambles along with nothing much happening......and then ends.
Spirited Away,Kiki`s Delivery Service and Grave of the Fireflies I`m half way through (I find them very hard to watch at one sitting).....with all 3 drifting along......
Maybe the one with the Pigs or the one with the Raccoons will be better!!!!!
I`ve also just purchased the full set of Cowboy Beebop so crossed fingers for that one.
I really want to get `into` manga/anime but have yet to find a stonker......I`m not a great sci-fi fan.....so maybe that`s the problem.

RE: Shops......a new trend where they think they`re doing us a favour?

This problem with Game and the extremely limited stocks of cheap Indy boxsets is yet another example of this current taunting of customers.
Some advertising big-wig has obviously come up with this and spread it around the highstreet: Advertise some great offer on the internet to get people into your shop and then have massive limitations to the offer......we are the customers and are doing THEM a favour shopping there..........not visa versa.

10 DVD`s of Cracker for 34.99

Amazon.co.uk have ten discs of the three Cracker series for 34.99.This seems alot of disc for the money considering it`s one of the best drama series.
There`s also the Prime Suspect series on 7 discs for 24.99.

RE: Nintendo going to drop out of the console business ??

This is sad news because there are plenty of gamers out there waiting for quality games.....and just like the N64 Nintendo just aren`t producing enough Gamecube specific ones.
No one`s going to pick a Gamecube for a dozen or so specific titles (unless they sell it at the crazy price they currently are). The X-Box and PS 2 offer so much more now they both offer online gaming, both can play DVD`s etc etc.
Nintendo have shot themselves in the foot by producing a very obsure media on which to put their games.......it`s true that it has been successful in stopping them being copied but so many people have chipped X-Boxes and PS2s now with games costing 3 quid.
It`s a no win situation for them really because quality games do take an age to make and therefore might be worth the 30 quid but there is an avalanche of rubbish out there that no one will buy for that much.
The article is also right in that the Gamecube has aimed at a younger market than the other 2 `gritty` consoles ....in a world where the average game buyer is 18 or over.
They still make some of the best games out there......even a die hard X-Boxer would have to admit that.......but if they come out witht a new next gen console they are going to have it with far more potential for expansion.
That`s my penny`s worth on the matter anyhoo.......:)

Can u recommend a good printer for 100 squid?

Hello there,I wonder if anyone could be of assistance.I`m trying to print out about 2000 leaflets (black and white mainly witht a bit of colour) and have a basic Epson C20UX printer.
The quality of printing is OK but it`s just so slow.....I`ve estimated it will take 200 hours to print off the leaflets.Does anyone know a better, faster, reliable printer (with low running costs) for around the 100 pound mark or below.
It would be greatly appreciated as I`m already fed up of the slow click..click...clickty ...click ......as it fires off one sheet every six minutes.......bah.
Thanks from Ele.

RE: Archos Jukebox & digital camcorder at letsbuyit.com

Hello,I used to have one of those Jukeboxes and wouldn`t reccommend them.they are very flimsy and easily damaged.Mine blew something when I tried to plug it in to the car cigarette lighter and hasn`t worked since.
Might be better off with the Creative Jukebox 2 (I`ve forgotten the name) available on dabs.com for similar money.....just my experience on the thing......
