RE: BEVERLY HILLS COP COLLECTION - R2

"Get the f**k outta here!", that`s cheap..Sorry, bad Eddie Murphy dialogue based joke.

RE: broom, broom Cars. what people own?

You`re right Neil.. I was torn after driving the new 5 series. Pics of the estate version don`t look that bad either.. I figured it needed a few more toys than the Merc did though and that it might take me even more over my budget!

Saw a Cayaenne with Arab plates on this morning.. it looked the business. The tax wouldn`t have been an issue as I opt out of the Co. car scheme but the fuel consumption certainly would! Oh for cheap gas like my Folks get over in the States!

RE: broom, broom Cars. what people own?

Will do Neil.. The Merc arrives 1st March next year for the new Reg.

I`m dead excited but can`t help but think it`s a bit "mature" for me..(I`m only 32!). Need the space with baby number 2 on the way though..

I`m fickle with cars..Haven`t even taken delivery of this one yet and I`m already thinking I should have gone for a Cayenne. The new 5 series drove nicely but I can`t bring myself to like the looks of it..

RE: broom, broom Cars. what people own?

Nice thread idea.. OK, here goes..

My car history to date (inc company cars)

Austin Metro MK1 - in yucky GPO yellow! Always started though
Ford Probe - Mmmm, Cheeseman-tastic.. Put it in a ditch..
Rover 620si - Bit Alan Partridge this time. Company car, that`s my excuse..
Mini Cooper - Metallic Grey with black roof and bonnet stripes - lovely till it blew up!
Rover 620Si - yep, had another one. British Racing Green this time..bit of a short term measure after I blew up the Cooper!
Subaru Impreza Turbo - my current car.. lovely motor. For sale if anyones interested!
Mercedes E320cdi Avantgarde Estate (currently on order, starting to wish I should have maybe gone for the new entry level Porsche Cayenne though!)..

Cheap Gamecube Games?

Amazon seem to be about the cheapest place online for Gamecube games at the moment (£29.99 a pop). Are any game shops / high street stores doing similar prices though.. or maybe a buy one get one half price offer? I would love to get Mario DD and FIFA 2004 (yes I already have Pro Evo 3 on the PS2!) but I don`t think I can face the grief from my Missus when £60 spent at Amazon appears on the credit card bill :)

RE: Top Ten guy movies

Swingers should deffo be there!

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Anyone else watching this show? Series 2 is currently showing on BBC4 at 10:30pm on Tuesdays. I find it hilarious but I think it may be an acquired taste.. helps if you watched Seinfeld as Larry David, the star of Curb (playing himself) was the co-creator of Seinfeld and is the basis of the George Costanza character..

Last night had me in fits.

It`s another HBO show..they can do no wrong in my eyes - Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Band of Brothers..well Sex And The City isn`t my cup of tea come to think of it!

Seems to be about the only thing worth watching on BBC4 although I caught the end of the Mark something or other "lecture" on Darwin that was on before it last night and this was pretty funny..

RE: Pro Evo 2 -R.I.P....

Just got back from the US and noticed they`d got a GC Winning Eleven game available too. Is this the same as the Japanese version do you think? May be a better option, translations-wise...

I have Pro Evo 2 and am interested in the comments as to why the GC version is so much better?

RE: Gamecube SCART Leads

Got myself an official SCART lead. Rogue Leader looks much better but Mario is still very flickery in 50hz or 60hz mode. Is this because the only SCART point I`ve got free on my telly (Philips 32PW9617) is not an RGB do you think? Anyone else got a flickery plumber?!

Gamecube SCART Leads

I`m one of what I guess must now be many new cheapo-priced Gamecube owners. Had a blast on Mario Sunshine and Rogue Leader at the weekend. Great games but the picture on my widescreen TV with the standard cable is pretty awful (very flickery).

Realise I probably ought to go for a SCART lead but is the official one worth shelling out for? I don`t need the seperate audio output 3rd party scarts give you (dolby provided via the tv) and I probably don`t need an RGB scart lead I guess as I only have a standard non RGB scart input free on my widescreen TV. Will I only get pukka 60hz mode if I use an RGB SCART plugged into an RGB SCART point on my TV (Philips 32PW9617)? I could get an RGB switch box for one of my 2 RGB ready scart points I guess, but that`s even more to shell out for and I`m worried this would reduce the performance of any devices hanging off it.

Final question.. there doesn`t seem to be any widescreen option on the console (or on these 2 games at least)..Is this the norm with the cube?

Any help much appreciated

RE: Anyone see / remember this film?

Top Man Alan. Thanks for that. I`m not going mad, then. Can`t see any dwarves in the pictures though, so maybe I imagined that bit in an e-number fuelled daze! Agreed with the comments on the page about it staying with you if you saw it as a kid...spooky!

RE: Anyone see / remember this film?

Yep, similar feel to it but it was definitely European (and in colour).

Anyone see / remember this film?

Recent thread on here about the new phone box / assassin movie got me thinking of a weird foreign (possibly Italian or Spanish?) horror film I saw on TV when I was a kid (late 70`s / early 80`s). A bloke finds himself locked in a phone box in the middle of the day in a town centre. Passers by are amused. Van eventually turns up to help him but it just lifts the box up with him in it and takes him away. Seem to remember the van was driven by scary dwarves (are there any other kind in horror films?!), although I may have imagined that bit after eating too many Spangles!

Van eventually drops phone box in a Raiders-esque huge warehouse full of similar telephone boxes containing dead / decaying / dying people. Simplistic yes, but it scared the ar*e off me as a pre-teen! Remember seeing a similar sketch in Monty Python involving a busty housewife and milkmen locked in a bedroom, funnily enough!

Anyways, anyone else see it, hear of it being available? Would like to watch it again to prove it was real..It scared me more than The Singing Ringing Tree, and that`s saying something!

RE: Cheapest way that i can watch sky in my bedroom????

I`ve got one of these which only works at night and not during the day...Bizarre, eh?? Anyone else have this problem?

Other than that they`re pretty good!

Digital Point - anyone used them?

These guys seem to have the best price on a Tosh DVD / Speaker system I`m looking at buying on their site..Anybody have any experience of them?

RE: Speaker Stands / Brackets for Philips Pixel Plus TV`s

Thanks Bowf, I`ll get some ordered up.

Evolution..(is that as in Mitsubishi Lancer??), I`ve got the 32" Pixel Plus set..very pleased with it, especially with DVD playback. Still glad I went for it over Tosh, Sony etc..

RE: Speaker Stands / Brackets for Philips Pixel Plus TV`s

Thanks Frankie

I`m not sure how my speakers will attach to these stands (or the ones Bowf recommends) as on the back they seem to just have a hole to hook ont a wall-mounted screw (as opposed to a threaded hole to screw them onto a stand).

Has anyone successfully managed to attach the Philips rear speakers to these type of stands?

Greg

RE: Speaker Stands / Brackets for Philips Pixel Plus TV`s

Many thanks for that Bowf, I`ll check them out. Do you have a Pixel Plus set too, as I was worried the speaker with the amp in it would be too heavy for floor mounted stands to support the weight without being a bit top heavy/wobbly?

For me to wall mount the speakers at a decent height I would need to extend the mains cable somehow (the speaker cable is just about long enough) but I don`t think this can be easily done (without a messy extension lead sat on my windowsill..not very wife or toddler friendly!). Looks like floorstanders will be the best option..

Greg

Speaker Stands / Brackets for Philips Pixel Plus TV`s

Can anyone recommend some rear speaker stands (high or low) or wall brackets for the above sets, preferably ones that hold the speakers secure (to stop my Little `Un taking a swipe at them!)?

I seem to remember reading some Folks used some from Ikea a while back but there`s not a branch near me. Any other recommendations. I think the mains cable may be too short to wall mount them in my room, can this be easily extended?

RE: Sky TV Link Magic Eye Problems

Thanks Folks. Will give these tips a try. It`s a Pace Digibox which is getting a bit Flakey these days.

Sky TV Link Magic Eye Problems

Since changing my main TV recently the TV Link Magic Eye to the old set upstairs is working intermittently or not at all. The nice people at TV Link sent me a replacement which I managed to get working but I tried it today and I can no longer change Sky channel upstairs. Anyone have any ideas on the problem. I`ve followed all the troubleshooting tips TV link gave me to no avail. Strange that it worked OK then gave up the ghost..

I`ve read on these forums that you can change the rf frequency in the setup menu (as well as turning rf2 on and off). Is this something I should try playing around with?

Sky Picture Quality

Hi folks

My Sky picture seems very blocky of late (and my magic eye remote for my second TV has packed up..not sure if this is related). Signal strength and quality in the menus are at 50% ish. Is this unusually low? Should I get an engineer in to resite the dish do you think (it`s not in an ideal spot since it was moved last year after some building work)?

Any help much appreciated..

Sky+ via Pixel Plus TV

Anyone done this yet? Have you managed to get 5.1 sound from Sky+ and the DVD player? If so what kit did you use? Think it must be possible using switch boxes for RGB SCART and the digital audio inputs but I`m not sure if picture / sound quality would be affected..

I`m thinking of buying Sky+ for the recording capabilities but it would be nice to know I could get films in Dolby 5.1 from the TV too..

RE: Philips Pixel Plus Philips 32PW9617 / Sky Digital

Anyone able to help?

Must be some Philips Pixel Plus owners on here?

RE: Philips 32PW9617 / Sky Digital

Any 32PW9617 owners able to help me? Also noticed last night that the TV`s onscreen display doesn`t recognise the audio via the VCR either (either on the TV/sky channels or in VCR playback). Is this correct? Seems to sound OK but I`d like to know all is well..

Philips 32PW9617 / Sky Digital

Hi

Just set up my new Philips 32PW9617. Very happy with it. Awesome DVD playback. One question for any other owners (or of recent model Philips TV`s generally I guess). The screen seems to register the audio from all other inputs except Sky (regular TV recognises Nicam when analog BBC, ITV etc is selected, DVD recognises Dolby Digital, PS2 recognizes stereo). Does this mean my Sky box (connected via RGB SCART, although possibly distorted with by the fact that my regular TV aerial is daisy chained through my VCR and Sky box to the TV so that I can pick up regular channels as well as Sky upstairs via the magic eye??) is not being picked up in Stereo (it sounds OK, but the TV is set to Autosurround which seems to spread the sound signal anyway), or does the audio on Sky via Scart work OK but just not get recognised by the Philips TV`s as stereo when selected?

RE: Philips Q50 DVD setup help

Hi Ross

I had a dilemma over the Q40 or Q50 too. Plumped for the more expensive player after comparing the specs. The Q50 seems a bit more "mid-range" spec wise. Alos my Q50 was the last one in stock at Unbeatable for £239, which seemed like a good deal for a player that started out at £399.

It looks the business, by the way (although so does the Q40!)..
