Sorry for being the eternal numb-nuts but can i get freeview on my p.c and if so what do i need and can you make any recommendations thanks in advance ;)

Its a doddle

you have to decide if you want a usb or pci model. Some will also pick up anologue signal aswell. The main thing is to ensure you have good reception as some of the ariels supplied are useless.

SVP here have a selection. You usually get an EPG posh telly guide and software which allows you to record the freeview channels.

put your postcode into here and if the transmitter listed is more than about 5 miles away start thinking in terms of plugging it into a roof aerial.
The only grounds for wanting to receive analogue signals that i can see is if you want to watch tv and play a game at the same time (only windowed games not full screen) which i do when playing an mmorpg. Digital receivers receive an entire frequencies worth of programmes and its upto the pc to extract the relevant programme and sound whereas with analogue the sound can be fed straight from the card to the soundcard and there`s only the data for a single programme so the digital receiver software takes a lot more processor power
