Anti Virus Options and Sign Off`s

tb1 (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 4th March 2005, 06:46

I rermember awhile back a thread was run on Anti Virus software available which also ended up discussing free Anti Virus. Don`t seem to be able to find now but any updates on best AV to buy/best deals.

If free sites exist which is best one and why do people then pay for Norton, for eaxmple.

Having got a new machine now need to sort something urgently.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Also how do you get those fancy picture sign off`s added to your postings - clearly I`m just being thick but could not find where you insert :(

Thanks for quick (and early) reply, looks good but is this as good as Norton`s of the world that you have to pay for? If so why do people pay? and what is in it for the company to continue to develop this but provide it for free? I`m very curious.

Why do people pay for Norton? Maybe the same reason they pay £24.99 for a DVD in HMV... :)

Alot of people buy Norton etc because they simply dont know there are free virus checkers online... others think they are getting the "best" program if thet buy an expensive one .. AVG free is an excellent free virus checker, i took norton off my computer when AVG found viruses that norton had`nt, never looked back + would never use anything else .

I used to use AVG (freeware) it was good but updating could be a problem so I now use Antivir (also freeware)and that combined with a regular use of a spybot remover and touch wood I have no complaints :D
