Scan Official Response

pf51 (Competent) posted this on Monday, 19th March 2001, 15:53

If you have downgraded to v 1.80 of the firmware and got a Write Fail message here`s Scan`s statement:

Dear Sir,

Scan`s Disclaimer states :

SCAN COMPUTERS INTERNATIONAL,
ACCEPT NO LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES,
RESULTING IN THE USE OF FIRMWARE UPDATES.

In no event shall Scan International be liable for any damages whatsoever (including, without limitation, incidental, direct, indirect, special or consequential damages,
damages for loss of business profits, business interruption, loss of business information, or other pecuniary loss) arising out of the use or inability to use this
Firmware update, even if Scan International have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

This is our official disclaimer and we cannot be held responsible for any problems resulting in a failure of firmware updates carried out by yourself, this has been recently getting out of hand and customer have been abusing our policy.

If as a result of you altering the firmware on the player, you have directly caused problems with the machine, then, no action can be taken by Scan Computers as this invalidates your warranty.

Hope this clears things up for you.

Kind Regards

I have to say that kind of response doesnt sound very professional.

"Hope this clears things up for you."

hmm typical line added at the end of a letter that is both patronising and insulting. very unhelpful and useless.

a total disgrace.

and this man is a `customer services` manager.

But if your sending out machines and the owners are messing them up with their experiments you can`t expect the manufacture be it Sony or scan to keep taking the machines back under warranty and sending out replacments!...I think scan are within there rights!

as Scan supply the firmware upgrades anyway - this is total rubbish.

this letter would only be applicable if Scan supplied the player and no firmware upgrades but you obtained an firmware from another source.

you can`t provide an update to a produce you supply and then say that `well if it buggers up your system we aren`t responsible`.

I suggest you contact Nelley at Scan and discuss with him - also suggest you remain calm! Assume that there has been a misunderstanding somewhere along the line or whatever. failing that update us in the forum and I will come up with appropriate suggestions on steps you can take.

nb. I posted my second posting at the same time as Bear posted his comment - so don`t read `this is rubbish` as a response to Bear`s comments!

Well if it is an offical upgrade , well thats different , I suppose you could ask them to send an engineer round to install the upgrade, dont Tesco do that with there Wharfdales machines.
