Optical or coaxial; any recommendations??? Also speaker cable!!!

Bubblegum (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 27th January 2004, 22:07

Just ordered this little puppy:

http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_13494.html

and was looking for some advice on an interconnect for it. Was considering this beast from amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009MGDU/ref=sr_aps_electronics_1_1/026-2793141-3904407?tag=myrev09-21

Am I doing the right thing; or will I get something better for that price?

What about speaker cable? The system has not cost a massive amount, so I dont want to spend too much, but I dont want any old crap!

Cheers in advance for any help

Good choice of cable their, the Ixos will serve you fine. or consider something from the QED range.

Also from QED I would recommend their Silver Anniversary speaker cable from around £5 per metre, quality at a decent price.

Good luck.

If only everything was half price at Woolies !

Optical vs Co-axial is a classic hoary chestnut ;)

Best bet - buy BOTH cables from a reputable store, clearing with them that you want to return the one you like least. Then give each a listen with some of your favourite movie or music material, and decide for yourself.

Dont worry about buying speaker wire, It is overpriced.

What you want is 1.5mm electrical flex, I have used this on varius applications and it cannot be beaten, Trust me.

It is available in a range of colours to suit your needs and also it is doubled sheath whereas standard speaker cable is not. (very low loss).

Don`t spend a stupid amount of money on a digital interconnect. £5 is OK, £25 is just silly, especially when your amp package only cost £220 odd! It doesn`t make any difference to the sound quality.

Cheers for all the recommendations guys; I think I am pretty sorted, but just another quick one; subwoofer cable, should I bother, or will standard speaker wire do?
