I HAVE A PACIFIC 1002 WHICH I HAVE FOUND TO BE GRAT VALUE....
HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A COPY ON DVD OF MY DAUGHTERS COMMUNION WHICH WILL NOT PLAY. I WAS TOLD THAT FOR SOME REASON THESE COPIES WILL NOT PLAY ON SOME MACHINES.....
I HAVE NOT HACKED ANY CODES IN TO THE MACHINE YET ...

Philip have a look at this thread http://www.dvd.reviewer.co.uk/forums/thread.asp?Forum=211&Thread=192202
Could be copyright protected by him up there. :)

One solution - would be to make a VCD/SVCD of it.

The 1002 seems to have issues with recordable DVDs. I`m looking into it. :)

Like I say - issues. The Pacific is a tank of a machine, it plays virtually anything you throw at it, even raw mpeg files burnt on a CD. But if I try authoring a DVD it sulks and won`t play it, although it will handle DVD+R and +RWs burnt on a Philips DVD recorder. It may be something to do with the VCD cobble they had to put on the machine to get the price down (not having to pay royalties to Philips). Then again, it might be something about the discs the machine takes exception to. That`s what I`m looking into - DVD compatibility issues.

Multiregioning the machine won`t help, but it will make the machine even more user-friendly as you`ll be able to buy discs that aren`t available in the UK.

Being a proud owner of a Pacific 1002 myself, I like to keep abreast of topics of interest about the machine and if I find out anything useful, this forum will be the place you hear about it. :D

hey,

well i have tested svcd on sony cd`s, no problems. traxdata dvd +r, sliver top dvd+r (cheap nasty dvd disks), again no problems. the only thing i noticed dodgy is it takes ages to start up most dvd +r . and on some dvds it vibrates. besides that, its a nice bit of kit, and now down to 44.85 at asda :)
