DVD+RW Compatibility

Stiggy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 21st June 2003, 13:12

I`m seriously considering buying the Philips DVDR 880 from my local Powerhouse for £250. trouble is it`s a 1 day special so I have to get it today. I have a Sony DVP735 player. Can anybody tell me if DVD+RW discs are compatible with this machine. Any other info on the 880 would be useful.

Thanks,

i can`t say for certain, but if it`s a fairly new machine you shouldn`t have any problems ( and it`s only a small proportion of older machines that won`t work with dvd-r and dvd+r)

Just been looking on the dvdplusrw.org website at their dvd player compatibility list. Under Sony there is listed the DVP S 735D which is compatible with both +R and +RW. Apart from that, the majority of Sony players are compatible. Look here .BTW that`s a good price for the 880. Also be aware there are some in both the Philips and Panasonic camps that would question the reliability of the 880 and 890. Some earlier problems have apparently been fixed with a firmware update to FF12r (the latest from Philips available for download).
