The Cheapest Encore 450

Manni (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 8th January 2001, 16:24

I`ve been waiting for Encore to drop the price of this player from 200 to something more reasonable, fat chance I know.
So I decided to try and find another supplier for these machines. The chaepest I found was 190 on www.reserve.co.uk.

Does anyone know where you can get them any cheaper?

B4 xmas Encore supplied QXL with a load of silver ones and flogged them for 150. I should have snapped one up there and then but instead waited around thinking they`ll drop the price to somewhere round this after xmas. I`m getting even more p***ed of as i got a load of DVD`s bought over by a mate who`s just been to the Far East, and no player to watch them on.

I seriously thought bout buying the Lecson from Debenhams for 180 on Saturday, will it do as a subsitute for the Encore? Can you control the speaker levels/volume on this machine?

I`ve also seen the Medeion and Manhattan players, are these any good?
I`m a student and so need one with a built in decoder, as i cant afford to splash out on a separate Amp. Anyone have any suggestions?

Any more sites with stunning offers on players out there?

Help! I want to watch my DVD`s before they start getting cob webs on them!!!

You can`t actually control the speaker volume levels from the Encore 450, only the delay on centre and rear speakers, and to tell the player whether you have a centre speaker, rear speakers and a subwoofer.

However, you would only use that option if you were using the on-board Dolby Digital decoder - would you be hooking it up to a Dolby Digital amplifier ? If so, you could alter the volume of the different speakers on your amplifier.

And yes, Amazon are still doing the Encore 450, I believe, at £169.99
Encore Direct have sold out until February (see `Hot Toast` thread)

Yeah, spot on Joyboy, Gamestation are actually doing the Dreamcast plus Encore promotion (for £299), but I didn`t realise they were selling the 450 separately as well - good find mate.

For the uninitiated, Gamestation mainly sell new and used games for every platform going, and are pretty good for second hand DVDs too, round about £8-£15. There`s one in Birmingham, Derby and Nottingham - are they just restricted to the Midlands, or does anyone else have one near them ?

Yeah, top marks 4 that spot joyboy, but I`ve just rang the Reading branch and they told me that its 169.99 if you buy it by itself, is this right?

Also does anyone no bout the situation on refunds replacements and cover generally from Gamestation, is it any good?
Has anyone got 1 from there and had any of the common problems crop up e.g. Lip-sync errors, etc...?

A bit off the subject now but does anyone have the Firmware upgrade so the "problem discs" can be played i.e. Toy Story disc 3, etc... I`ve heard that these discs are only a problem if bought on R2 but play fine if they r R1 versions, is this true?

Help appricated ASAP b4 i go down there and grab 1, after returning my Lecson to Debenhams.

http://www.area450.co.uk is a good starting point - Mark Rutland from Encore will visit the forum, so you can leave questions for him there !
