Take it back to the store, get a refund and buy another player. Or you could just keep it and write arsy letters to the magazines that stated it was multi-region for misleading you and/or the top dog of Alba UK telling him/her how disappointed you are with the product and the service you`ve received...

Ok, point 1: If it plays an R1 disc, then the mag did not mislead you. No gripe there.

Point 2: How can you complain about the service after you have "hacked" the player?

I have posted on more than one occasion that you CANNOT tell a service dept., or a Retailer that you changed the players status. You have to say it`s still in the original purchase mode, and reset it to the same before taking it to the store.

The player you bought was an R2 machine, any problem you get after a hack has been performed gives the retailer and the manufacturer an easy get out!

If you haven`t realised yet, I work in retail, and know a little bit of tech stuff, not enough to diagnose your problem, but enough to tell ya that the disc spinning when ejecting has NOTHING to do with their region OR the hack.
It`s a fault in the disc transport, I just don`t know what!

If the mag says it`s a multi-region player and then Alba tell you you`ve damaged the player by using another region, the mag is at fault since it should have researched the claim before making it to susceptible buyers.

He doesn`t say he`s hacked the player, he simply says he`s used R1 discs in it, unless the documentation states "DO NOT INSERT REGION 1 DVDS" he`s got good cause for complaint if the customer service dept tell him it`s inserting one of these that`s buggered up the machine...

Oh and if a customer service rep hangs up on me that equals BAD SERVICE and they`re gonna hear about it!

Personally I think if Alba are telling you that placing a Region 1 disc in the machine has damaged it, they ought to provide some technical reason why this is so. Because from here it sounds like a load of bull, no other Region 2 only machine will break if you stick a Region 1 disc in it.

That`s what I figured, I`ve also read numerous reviews which state the player is region-free out of the box...

i had an alba 103 and sold it because its absolute s***e!!! picture quality is grainy and it cant handle movies which are mostly dark - its goes a snot green colour! by the way it is multi region out of the box and it wont damage it putting another region disc in it. the reason it wont play certain discs is beacause its crap and wont play some R2 discs never mind R1. i know for a fact that R2 Go! doesnt work as doent the R1 T2: ultimate edition. anyway sell it and but something half decent instead.....
