Wharfdales and DTS

Jon Viner (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 28th November 2000, 19:18

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the Wharfdale 750 was capable of delivering DTS sound.

I have one of the said units connected to a Yamaha DSP-A5 amp via a digital co-ax cable. I also recently bought Gladiator, which it bills as having a DTS soundtrack. However, when I play it, nothing is heard over the speakers (for the DTS soundtrack - its fine on the 5.1 track).

Am I being thick or is the Wharfie not capable of reading this soundtrack? (I have checked that it is transmitting a bit-stream and that the amp is set up for receiving DTS).

Any advice welcome!

My mate has a 750 and I have a 750s, but from what I`ve heard, the 750 can use DTS but is not certified. The 750s is. It should work but I haven`t tried it myself.

It all depends on which version of the 750 you have.

If it has a DTS logo you should be fine, if it`s one of the early ones which didn`t, then from what I`ve read, it`s pot luck - some do, some don`t.

If you have a logo and it doesn`t work then take it back and get a 750S for free :)
