Problem with Philips 957.

Tzl (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 5th March 2001, 07:54

Dear All,

I have a serious problem with my Philips 957 DVD player. I tried to change the region code and I used the code of 956 Unfortunately not just the region code changed, but the whole DVD it works as a 956, so now the extra functions aren`t available (e.g. the embedded DD and DTS decoder).
Has somebody similar experience or any idea how can recover the originalstatus?
I would appreciate if somebody could help me!

Tzl

Thank you very much for your help! I used the code, and the Dolby Digital
decoder has been started, but the DTS is still doesn`t work. I don`t know
is depend on something about the DVD`s firmware version (it is 8.03). I
don`t know how function the Beeper, SVCD and PBC so I set them up to NO.
If you have any further idea please share with me!

I checked again the firmware number, it is 8.03. I bought this DVD approx. 2 months ago, but I hope, regardless the firmware number, I can start again the DTS decoder somehow (there is the question, how?). Have you got any idea what can be the Beeper and SVCD and PBC?

Beeper: player will beep each time when you press a key on the remote.
SVCD: super video CD (think about like like about DVd with playing time up to 70 min and no regional protection or macrovision)
PBC: this is a special mode for playing SVCD and VCD 2.0 with menus.

All these features are vailable in selected countries for selected models.

I have 2 further question:
What will happen when I set to YES the Beeper and SVCD and PBC if this devices AREN`T in the DVD?
How can I reanimate the DTS decoder?

it would appear that 8.03 is the latest firmware.....big jump from 7.12!.....

you need to reset your player to its original P number........you should have made a note of what yours was before attempting to hack the player............

the only solution i can see...is to telephone Philips.......they will give you the correct code to return your machine to its factory default.........it would be a good idea to share this code.....so i will be able to add the information to the code list......

once you have reset your player......just make a note of the P number before you start hacking again............

Alan, now we will have troubles identifying firmwares: there is 8.0 for another models. :-(

Tzl, if you set YES to the beeper nothing will happen because your model does not have a physical beeper inside. You can set PBC on, it will not affect DVD.

About DTS: you need to revert back to your original P number :-)

I thought before this topic, I have to revert the original P number, but I don`t think if I go to a Philips service with I tell them"- Hi guys! I have a problem with my DVD what I can`t solve it! The problem is the next: I wanted to hack my DVD, bat it wasn`t successful, so I need the original P number!" I can`t imagine service-technicians will be helpful. For this reason I turned to you not the service.
If my DVD doesn`t have beeper what can be that device what is beepinginside?
