Anyone here know about satnav?

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 12th February 2008, 11:13

After a successful weekend of football betting, I`ve got money burning a hole in my pocket and I want to buy a satnav.
I quite like the look of the Tom Tom XL.
If I go for the GB version, can I add European maps as and when?
Also, with regard to the bluetooth function, do I have to make sure my phone is compatible, or are `all` bluetooth phones compatible?

I can`t get my tom tom to talk to my LG phone. It would read out the text with the Sony I had. This is a Go910. I think the Tom Tom site has a list of compatible phones. I don`t klnow about adding maps.

Not sure bout the XL but make sure it is a version with an SD card slot then you can just download the maps onto a card for a fraction of the cost.

Also look on pocketgpsworld you can get all the speed cams and many other pois. Speed cam database costs a couple of quid a month, a lot of other stuff is free if you feel like having the location of every mcdonalds for example.

I have a TomTom One very good and clear even on the motorways with the music loudish. Tho once you turn the volume above 85% it gets a bit distorted, I never need it that loud 80 is fine.

Not sure about the bluetooth business.

i bought my dad a tom tom one XL from John Lewis for £135 last month - it came with speed cameras database and an sd card slot - but no sd card (which are dirt cheap anyway)

I dont think it has bluetooth though but i may stand corrected.

Its a great little gadget - my dad who can barely operate a remote control loves this thing as its so simple to use. As a matter of fact i`d go so far as to say its a life changer for us. My missus isnt a confident driver at all but since buying her one last february she`s been all over the country by herself and she absolutly loves it - she`d never have the confidence to drive to Bolton and back by herself......

If bluetooth is a neccessity then i think the higher models are better but i dont know much about them.

Jacks Fish & Chips of Cambridge ridiculously overpriced and overpackaged chips. £1.20 for a stupidly small portion of chips - they need to go up north for a good lesson in fish and chips
Alloy Bodies of Manchester - The Grand Daddy & Benchmark for shockingly poor customer service.

Bargain! 8)
My mate took advantage of some `funny` John Lewis pricing with a Dyson.
They had it marked at a stupidly low price, so he bought it sharpish.
It wasn`t a manager`s special, or anything like that.
Just some erroneous marking. :/
