Please help me find a portable DVD player

Superted (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 10th May 2007, 06:32

Hi everyone, I`m after some help in finding a portable dvd player.

We are going on holiday early hours of Wednesday morning and my eldest daughter has been unlucky enough to break her arm so we are looking for ways to keep her entertained while we are away, we have got her some books and an MP3 player but thought a DVD player would be nice too so she doesn`t get too bored or upset while she is watching all the other kids playing in the pools and the sea.

I have had a very quick look at Dabs, Ebay, Ebuyer and Amazon but can`t find anything suitable at the moment and have to leave for work in a few minutes :¦

We live in Cardiff and are flying from Gatwick so one that can be used in the car would be usefull too and would mean we could get a lot more use from it in the future.

Here`s what I`m after -
Essential - not too bulky - £100 is budget, can go slightly higher if needed - Can deliver by Tuesday at the latest or be collected from store in South Wales - Will deliver to wifes office as will not be anyone home in the day - Headphone sockets

Would be nice - MultiRegion - Small (suitable for kids) Headphones supplied - Twin Screens so the kids won`t fight over it in the car on the way to the airport - DivX capable - DVD player is built in to one of the screens to keep the size and clutter down - Has AV outputs so when we get to Egypt we can connect it to the hotels TV for a bigger picture.

Thanks as always for your help, off to work now got to do 8 days work between now and Tuesday so may not be able to check back until this evening. :( I`m so tired

Gerald.

Doesn`t quite fit all you criteria but I bought one of these:
http://www.argos.co.uk/ProductDisplayTRK019?partNumber=5000139
for £100 (I see it`s reduced to £85 now! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) a few weeks ago and it is excellent. The model is Acoustic Solutions DVD-263. The first one I bought had a bright blue pixel in the middle of the screen but Argos swapped it without any problem.
Excellent picture quality, comes with AV leads, only uses one power socket, comes with two pairs of headphones and a dinky little remote control and also a padded bag to put it all in. The screens have velcro straps for attaching to the back of the headrests and the leads to connect them to the player are good and long. Also comes with car power adapter and a mains adapter.
The down side is it`s not multiregion (and no-one seems to have a hack for it), the dvd unit is separate from the screens and as far as I know it doesn`t do DIVX.

My kids are 6 and 8 and think it`s great. Also means they can watch a DVD in their bedrooms when they want to.

Hope this helps.

For 47 pence over your budget you could get them one each , £100.47 for one 9 inch and a 7 inch player from here and can be collected in Cardiff , Nr. Heliport road end of the docks.

They are both AAA graded.

What are "Triple A Graded" Products?

Triple A Graded Products are either end of line items or have been returned from a variety of major high street retailers for various reasons. Sometimes these items are returned on a simple 16 day (no quibbles) return basis without even being used. All these items are thoroughly tested by our in-house staff to ensure that no item that leaves the premises is less than in 100% working condition. We aim to make the triple A graded mark a mark of the highest distinction in the field of graded items. In short, we will deem a product to be in Triple A graded condition where it is "as good as new". It is for this reason that we only sell individual items on this website that are AAA graded and lower grades are clearly identified where available. Although we cannot guarantee there will not be slight cosmetic blemishes on either the product itself or the packaging, most AAA graded products will be in as good as new condition.

Thanks Everyone, I called in to Argos last night on way home to see what they had and bought one as almost all were out of stock and they only hd 1 of these, it is a Wharfedale 10" screen, it is a flip up one as thought this would be better while we are away rather than a flat one.

Came with carry case, car and mains charger, 2 hour battery, headphones, car fixing kit, AV leads and remote for £120. A bit over budget but at least we`ve got one now, one less thing to worry about ;)

Only thing it didn`t have was AV input, I was thinking about getting one of those atari joysticks with the built in games to go with it. Still, she is supposed to be resting her arm not playing games with it so probably for the best.

All the best

Gerald.
