Do us all a favour and forget it.
Car alarms are always going off and nobody ever takes any notice.
Where is the evidence that they reduce car crime? More likely to increase it in my opinion - due to irate residents throwing bricks through the car windscreen in an attempt to shut it up at 3 o`clock in the morning!

Yup, Throwing a brick through a car window is gonna stop that alarm alright, DOH! :D ;)

I used to install Insurance approved alarms, the advantage to these is you could get a discount on your car insurance.

The discount varies depending on the car and where you live. The dis-advantage to these alarms is that they MUST be installed by a qualified and approved installer, which subsequently knocks up the price.

As for them going off all night, a properly installed alarm should not go off, most problems are due to them being poorly fitted/set up or faulty door/boot switches on the car, they tend to rust over time. Also these easy fit alarms you see in Makro and Argos are not worth having. Very un-reliable.

Best place to look is your local car hifi specialist (not halfords ;) ) And ask your insurance co to see if any discounts are available. Usually only on Catagory 1 and 2.

I would highly recommend Clifford, Meta and Cobra alarms. The vast majority we installed were Clifford.

Ive gotta agree with superted on this one, its the DIY jobbies that cause the most probs ..set far too sensitive and/or wired in wrong. An alarm fitted by a qualified installer is the best way to go
