Re-Releases

UltraViolet (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 10th February 2001, 23:18

Has anyone else noticed the amount of DVD`s being re-released with added features lately?

Seven is set to be released soon with an extra disk, Braveheart has just been re-released.

Why can`t they get it right first time?

I`ll feel stupid having 2 copies of Seven on my DVD shelf!

This is the first time Braveheart has been released on DVD.

As for Seven it was one of the first UK dvd releases and a p*** poor version. It deserved a re-release, it`s picture and sound will be a huge improvement on the current poor quality release.

Well when seven was first released dvd was only just beginning and so cost could not be justified for a small market with unknown future. Also many of the features used on the new version didn`t exist back when the first release was made. ie. half bitrate DTS audio (only came out last year) etc.

Seven is rightly excused as the format was new then, what doesn`t deserve to be excused (and certainly should get a re-release, hay and even a cheap upgrade price for existing owners :P) are:

Titanic - no extras, letterbox widescreen, premium price, having a laff at our expense?

The Abyss - loads of extras, letterbox widescreen even on the Region 2 which is out soon

I`m sure others can think of loads more. ;-)

i actually have 2 copies of the movie Dune.

One is a wide screen dolby 5.1

the other is a 4:3 special tv edition with about 40 mins of deleted and alternate scenes put back in but it only has mono sound!!!

but i still had to buy it even though i had the other one.

cos i love the movie.

It`s the prices for older films being released on a new format that`s ridiculous.

Take for example, "Airplane!" and "Airplane 2" which are due to be released for £19.99 each !!!

Call me greedy, but for that price, and considering how old the films are I`d expect both films on one DVD for that price.

I think the studios should release all of their older titles at budget prices because at the end of the day people are going to buy more that way.
