Lexmark Z52

Does anyone have any tips on how I can improve the print quality of this printer. I am getting light horizontal banding as if the printer head is skipping a line of print? I have tried new cartridges, cleaning the contacts to no avail. I have changed the output to the highest settings, as opposed to draft.
I was really hoping to print out some photographs of my good lady and I taken in Norway and Sweden but the way I am going there is more chance of me growing hair and losing three stone.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Cheers

im a printer engineer..... but havnt really looked at this product before i work on mainly laser machines.... i would say you print heads are probably shagged.. this isnt good.... however im not sure if the cartridges have the print heads on them...... more details would be good... try cleaning the print heads...

i have the smae printer that i use for basic layout and vector printing.
quite simply it`s an appaling printer of very low quality that seems to get worse over time, probably due to the ink-flow slowly clogging everything up.

Thanks folks.
I have a few spare new colour cartridges so I will give them a try. I have tried cleaning the heads on the cartridge by wiping in one direction across the head with a lint free cloth dampened with warm water. I have also tried doing the same on the cartridge connections on the cartridge carriage as well. Both made no difference at all. The banding/ light lines looks far worse on dark printing , I guess that is just because it will be more obvious on a dark printout than a light printout.
Looks like I might end up getting a new printer. Any tips on one that is good enough for photograph printing on photographic paper.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

I know you`ve said you changed the cartridges but have you aligned them. I have an old Lexmark (1020) and you get the option to align the cartridge when it is installed.

Not sure but his might work.

Sorry for the late reply Duder.
Unfortunately aligning the cartridges made no difference. I might have to resort to using my daughters 1020 and see if that is any better.
Thanks
Choagy :-)
