Which "obscure" films would you like to see on DVD?

top_cat_38 (Competent) posted this on Monday, 11th March 2002, 21:04

I was perusing my video collection and came across a few films that I`d love to see on DVD but I know will never happen.

Here are 4, plus a link to the Internet Moview Database.

vanishing point : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0067927

apartment zero : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0094667

electra glide in blue : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0070022

pathfinder : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0093668

All the above are great "art-house" films which I think deserve a DVD release!!!

I`d be interested to see what other "obscure" films people would like to see released.

I`ve love to see some eastern European stuff come out..especially films by Emir Kusturica like :

Time of the Gypsies : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0097223
Black cat, White Cat : http://us.imdb.com/Title?0118843

and what about Twin Town !! - was on Channel 4 a little while back and it`s about time it got put together with at least the documentary I know was made about it, and hopefully a commentary with Keith Allen involved somewhere....ayway, rant over.

Someone above mentioned "Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia", a top film starring Warren Oates who is very underrated in my view.

I`d add another one of his films to this list, "Race with the evil", also starring Peter Fonda, scared the sh*t out of me when I first saw it and it still does.

I`d also add this little gem starring Joe Don Baker "The Shadow of Chikara", I saw it about 20 yrs ago on tv, again it left a lasting impression on me. Ignore the review, I think it`s a cracking film.

Alan

Black Cat, White Cat is available on a German Region 2 release [http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/tg/stores/detail/-/dvd-de/B00004RYQ6/tech-info/ref=ed_tec_dp_2_1/028-8139305-0906958?tag=myrev09-21], but it looks like it`s only got German subtitles. How`s your German?

cheers mintguy!..unfortunately, me German amounts to some Wagner opera quotations and a few financial terms (that go with the job)....but nice to see this film`s out there somewhere on DVD.

Nice to see an Alain Delon film has made the list (Borsalino).

I know you can get a few of his films on DVD but as yet I`ve not found "Le Samouraï " :

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0062229

He`s the cinematic embodiment of `cool` !!

I`ve just noticed that "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich" had Eric Thompson in it who, as we all know, is the father of Emma and the narrator of `The Magic Roundabout`.

Anyway, time for bed.....

Le Samourai isn`t even available on video.
I`d like to see
The Masque of the Red Death (and a selection of other Corman and Price films)
Amateur (Hal Hartley film , try searching for that without getting 5000 porn films listed)
A whole selection of Almodovars earlier films a few of which are available in america but not many.
Various John Waters films which like Almodovars are available if recent but sparsely for the earlier ones.
