Butterfly Effect Better Ending. Spoiler

A while ago I watched a friends pirate version of the Butterfly Effect and I was struck by the powerful, emotional ending.

So I buy the dvd as soon as it comes out, and whats this, the ending is different! It`s rubbish, in the dvd, he kills himself. Even on the special features it doesn`t have the alternate ending. The closest to it is the "Stalker Ending", which is also poor.

Does anyone know of the ending I am referering to, and why it has changed. I feel I`ve wasted my £12.99, and the irony is the pirate version is better!

The scene is:

- Evan writes the letter, says he will go back to save her
- He goes back to when he first met Kayley, and reluctantly tells to leave him alone
- His memories of a life with her fade away
- back in present day, he burns his memoirs while Oasis play `Stop Cryin Your Heart Out` in the background
- Evan bumps into Kayley in the street 8 years later, but they continue walking in opposite directions, losing each other in the crowd.

Soz if it spoiled the ending for anyone before I updated the title, I didn`t think many people would have seen the ending I was describing as it wasn`t on my DVD, only pirate. Anywayz, let it be known - England wants the good ending!

Methinks a spoiler alert might be advisable on this one!!!

I have seen the ending that you refer to, it is the theatrical ending on the R1 version. I would have assumed that the endings would be the same.

Better to die fighting for freedom than to be a prisoner all the days of your life

Yep - plus, there`s already another thread about this further down the page.

Basically, the R1 version is a double-sided disc with the Director`s Cut and extras on Side A, and the theatrical cut on side B.

It sounds as though the cack-handed UK distributors simply haven`t bothered with side B, despite the fact that the unused endings (Stalker/Happy Sappy) make no sense unless you`ve seen the full theatrical ending. And they wonder why people buy Region 1... :/
