Anybody else recieve french language cover on their BOURNE from Play?

mutoscope (Competent) posted this on Friday, 24th January 2003, 18:33

They sent me a Canadian R1 edition. The dual French/English logos on the front are ok but the spine looks really naff. I emailed them and they said that`s the only R1 version they are selling. They really should`ve mentioned this fact on their site plus the cover they are advertising is the US R1 cover. I`m sending mine back and getting it from CD wow.

Play seem to stock the cheapest dvd and now 75% of there titles seem to be canadian.

You can choose US or Canadian versions on movietyme

Have you tried taking the sleeve out and turning it over? Canadian sleeves are frequently double sided (French/English).

The back and front cover is dual language French/English. Would there be an English only cover on the other side? I haven`t opened the plastic as I`m going to return it.

I`ve been getting R1 discs from Play for years and have noticed the Canadian censor cert on many of them but this is the first time I`ve ever recieved a dual language cover. They should at least have the correct cover scan on their site otherwise that`s false advertising.

... Would there be an English only cover on the other side? ...

I don`t know - it`s quite common - the only way to find out is to open it and find out.

Unless somebody else already has?

I`ve checked the listing on the back. Under the ENGLISH language special features it says "French Packaging on Reverse". Under the FRENCH language special features it says " Supplements anglais seulment" - which I presume says "English packaging on reverse". Hmmm..this side already has both FRENCH and ENGLISH, both of which says there is FRENCH and ENGLISH on the otherside, which would mean that the same cover is on the reverses...which doesn`t make sense.

Hey Mutoscope:

"seulement" means "only" - so I guess there are only extras in english... hope this helps mate.

Thanks, dude. Okay, it says French packaging on reverse. Why would it say this when there`s already French packaging on this side?

I have opened my one and the cover on one side is English title in big letters and right underneath its in french too, the other side is just the opposite, big french title and small english.

the extras are in french/english too same as above.

I`m delighted with my one, only cost £11.50 or so from Canada and arrived just after the release date and it has DTS sound !!

Probably not worth the hassle of sending it back - unless of course you were planning to sell it on .......

:-)

Not that it helps and you probably already know but the reason for the dual lanuage covers is that canadian law requires a certain percentage (if not all) of a companies DVD output in the territory to have not only frecnh covers but also a french language soundtrack aswel if it is availiable.

What gets me is why don`t the have english on one side, french on the other? It really annoyed me with `Retour vers le Futur`, what is the point of having (in the case of Jason X) exactly the same thing but with the english and french text swapped on each side... madness.... I agree that it spoils the spine but i`d still rather put up with it than miss out....
