Powerhouse have these for £279 + an extra 10% off this weekend. There aren`t many left though but I`ve got myself one - bargain.

Hi Stiggy
I did the same as you and got mine for £252 too! at Powerhouse. Unfortunately mine would not play any pre-recorded DVD`s!! I tok it back the next day and got a refund. How is yours performing?

The Philips machines manufactured before April 2003 do have problems with reading discs.

They need to have the laser unit replaced with the 2nd gen unit.
It takes up to 4 weeks to get repaired in Belgium, but I have heard Philips are now exchanging for the new DVDR70/75/80 range, which have the new laser unit.

This a well known common fault.

I have had mine fixed, and now works perfectly.

Bought my 880 in November and started having problems playing back pre-recorded dvd`s a month ago.
Sent it off for repair and got it back last week. Not sure what they did but it`s running the latest firmware now and plays pre-recorded dvd`s.
Hopefully they`ve whacked a 2nd gen laser unit in it so no more problems. Fingers crossed..

I got mine from Powerhouse for £252. Great bargain, tried playing a couple of films on it without any problems so I`m well happy. Any tips for a good place to buy Recordable Media would be appreciated.
