RE: ENCORE all mails sent >>

Does this mean I`ve missed the boat again???

WOuld this be the fabled mythical 3.3 firmware upgrade??
Does it get rid of R1 lip sync probs??
I`ve got a Sampo so god only knows what firmware`s on it. All I know is it hates Pitch Black, and isn`t too fond of 6th Sense, Deep Blue Sea etc etc.

Anyone else had probs with 6th sense flipping from WS to stretched WS for no reason at all?? Also occasionally on the layer change an annoying white band appears in the black WS bits & you have to go to setup to remove it.

Is this just my Sampo showing it`s age?

By the way - go for it Clayts - we need a web site dammit. And my folks are gonna soon be members of the Encore clan - as they`ve decided it`s the machine for them. Frightening.

But if Bedlam is e-mailing all and sundry with the 3.3 upgrade - YES PLEASE mate!!!! Me e-mail is notsarobj[at]moc.liamtoh

Ta 2 anyone who reads it and feels generous!

RE: Macrovision hack for Lecson or Encore anybody????????????????????????

Clayts,

Have you got the 3.3 update? Does this/any wipe out the region 1 lip sync probs??

I have an orig Sampo with the nice and happy macrovision disable thru the hack - will it stay disabled with the firmware upgrade??

Boro

Pitch Black

Anyone had any freaky stuff happen while playing this film??

Every so often on my (Piece Of s***) Sampo I get weird juddering on the picture -this only happens in the daylight scenes - I thought maybe it was supposed to happen but saw it at the cinema last night and nope, not there!

And joy of joys, the picture on the DVD (bar juddering) is BETTER than the print I saw at Warner Bros cinema - oh smugness.

Yeah, lip sync is out on it as well - AARRGHHH!! Damn those swine at Total DVD for conning me into buying the machine.

Clayts? Have you tried it on your Encore? Any weird stuff?

Borrowed Final Destination (R2) off a mate, first R2 film to have lip sync probs on my Sampo - but the centre speaker delay sorted it.

Samsung 811 vs Panasonic RV20

Need to get a player for my folks as they disapprove of all the wires associated with my surround system (tragic) so I`ve deprived them of my player.

Techtronics do the Panasonic for under £200 chipped. Sounds good but no digital decoder - does this make any diff? My folks only want to plug it into a normal stereo hi fi. Is the virtual surround sound feature any cop? Are there are any compatibility probs?? I`m well narked with my sampo`s inability to lip sync R1 discs - and it REALLY doesn`t like Pitch Black.

Samsung 811 - is the hack permanent? DO you have to put it in every time you throw an R1 at it? Any compat probs?

Anyone got one of these players??

Cheers

RE: HOME THEATRE KITS - help

Coming from El Cheapo land...

Can`t recommend Videologic Digitheatre enough - £215 via QED web site, quick delivery - digital/coaxial connection, 5 speakers + sub woofer. Handles everything I`ve thrown at it (bar DTS - shockingly), Pitch Black was pretty much as good as at the Warner Bros cinema I saw it at last night (why did I do that when I own the DVD? hmm)

Ran Army of Darkness (stereo) through it on the Pro-Logic setting and hey presto v nice surround sound. Does it all.

Smallish rear, smallish front, normal size middle speaker. V good sound.
If you want to blow the money, the DTS option is prob v good - and you`ll have change from £500 - > £100 worth!

RE: Hi to all ....just getting into this DvD stuff But here goes

All depends on your requirements....

The Wharfedale is a nice cheap multi-region (& you can pick it up in tescos!!) which gives good performance (allegedly!)

Doesn`t have an in builty Dolby digital decoder and probably sod all round the back connection wise.

For me the whole point of the DVD is the 5.1 surround sound. So ideally you need at least a digital out on the back so you can hook it into a decoder.

I have a sampo which is multi-region (thru the remote) has shed loads of connections at the back, normal stereo phono, 5.1 phono, digital optical and coaxial. And an in-built decoder.

I just bought a videologic digitheatre - which makes the decoder redundant. If you`re gonna plug it into a stereo-you need the inbuilt decoder (I think).

Sampo is now Encore and I wouldn`t recommend it, coz although it`s cheap & multi-region, lip sync is an issue for R1s, though I`ve had no probs with R2s, and as far as I can tell you can`t switch off the macrovision on the Encore (boo hiss!).

Know nothing about Ariston but for that price you can bet your nuts that there`s gonna be no decoder and minimal outputs.

So you can buy cheap now and then get a decent sound system (Digtheatre £214 online - bargain!) or spend in the region of £200 on sommat you can plug into a stereo and go. Really depends on the rest of your equipment.

That`s been no help at all has it??

RE: Problems with dvdboxoffice

You guys really know how to cheer a chap up!

A month after I ordered it, I get the confirmation from DVDBO that my Evil Dead II sexy Tin Box is being sent (finally!) and then I find out that I may never ever see it. Damn that`s depressing.

Going on my experience of normally 9 days to arrive in my letterbox... I`m expecting Pitch Black 2morrow... so I`ll know if it`s scare mongering in the morning... Hmm

Had Army of Darkness directors cut recently in the normal time. Hmm.

And to join in...

Sampo wobbles about a bit!!!!
Videologic Digitheatre ROCKS!!!!!!!

(sorry)

RE: Videologic, 5.1 or DTS???

Woz,

So ya know I shall be a proud owner of Videologic Digitheatre on Friday when it is delivered to my door by the good (and surprisingly efficient) people of :

http://www.qed-uk.com

who sell it for £214 + free delivery. Bargain

Retails at £052[at]syrruC/Comet.

If you can find it any cheaper - then I`ll hate you for getting a better bargain.

Ahh, I`m looking forward to 5.1 surround sound again... The Matrix... Omaha Beach from Saving Private Ryan...

Oh the joy...

B

Videologic digitheatre - any good?

Dammit I`m bored with stereo.

I NEED 5.1 surround for my lovely DVD. Is the Digitheatre the cheapest half decent product?

Any ideas?

Can it be got anywhere other than thru Videologic? Anyone got one?

My player already has a Dolby Digital decoder in it - is there any nice cheap way of hooking it up direct to speakers??

RE: The late lamented(?) Sampo

Here`s the e-mail I sent to the Sausagesuckers:

James Boraston schrieb:

Hi, Tried to download your version 3.3 for DVE-560/360 and had a "page cannot be found" message. What does this download actually do?? Will it remove lip-sync problems with R1 discs?? Danke James Boraston

Dear sir,
it works only with our German DVD-Player.
Best regards Carsten

Don`t quite think they understand English. I`m still not brave enough to put the downloaded product into my DVD. Dammit!!

RE: The late lamented(?) Sampo

Yes, went to http://www.dvdschmiede.de

downloaded a version 2.0A (version 3.3 wouldn`t download - said "page not found"). You have to burn the update onto a CD-Rom and then play it in the machine. Groovy - but I have no idea what it`s going to do.

You`ll be able to get your macrovision hack through downloading ver. 2.0A. Damn useful having the macrovision off. I can get full access to the LOOPHOLE screen as is, so not sure I want to p*** about with it. I can live with minor lip-sync on my region 1s.

I emailed the germans and so will wait for a reply as to what the hell this upgrade does. Hmm.

Cheers anyway

The late lamented(?) Sampo

Hi,
I was one of the suckers that believed the reviews and bought a Sampo DVE-560 off the now defunct Magnate.

Anyway, I know there`s some sort of firmware upgrade available - prob for the Encore incarnation.

Can anyone tell me what this will actually do??

My only gripe with my machine is the lip sync probs with R1 discs, Deep Blue Sea, Lake Placid, Matrix, etc., etc., With fiddling with the central speaker I can sort of make it go away - will this firmware upgrade fix it?
