RE: dvd rental online whos best?

Hence my qualification that if you want an ad hoc service then it`s worth considering movietrak. Why do some of you sad people out there feel that you have a monopoly view on what`s what out there? Go take another bath Mr Mojo!

RE: dvd rental online whos best?

If it`s a pay as you go service you`re after rather than a regular subscription service you could do a lot worse than www.movietrak.com
£3.25 per disc + 50p p&p per order. Delivery almost always within a couple of days, once or twice the disc has been damaged upon receipt - movietrak have sent a replacement immediately (not waiting for me to return the faulty one). Excellent customer service everytime. Only small problem is that a very small number of new discs take a while to become available - they`ve explained to me that this is due to the horrendous pricing policies of some of the distributors. That said I ordered Catch Me If You Can on Tuesday evening and it arrived today! You have 7 days to watch and return, but if you return immediately you get a free rental for every 6 early returns.

RE: New Harry Potter - Faulty Discs?

Thanks for all the posts. I watched the movie (Disc One) on Saturday night - no problem at all. I still can`t get Disc Two to load on my Wharfedale 750s or my PC but it plays as normal on my PS2 and jumps, sticks, plays intermittently on my daughter`s AKAI DVD player. Don`t think I`ll bother returning it to Play - it looks like it`s a problem on some machines and fine on others - it`s the first ever no play on my wharfedale btw.

Thrifty.

New Harry Potter - Faulty Discs?

I`ve received this from Play today. I can get Disc One to play in my Wharfedale 750s but it will not recognise Disc Two. Neither disc will play in my PC! Anyone else experiencing problems?

RE: beatles anthology & cd wow

I got the same line by e-mail yesterday, but the package turned up on my doorstep this morning - postmarked Sweden - so no customs tax issue either!. Glad I paid less and waited a short while longer - what`s 10 days or so after waiting a few years!

RE: on9dvd The Two Towers?

Sorry if I come across a bit heavy on this one, but I`m in the credit card industry. It`s a fact that bootleg DVD`s etc are offered on the `net simply as a nice easy way for criminal gangs (or worse) to get your card details. They get confirmation from your issuer that the card details are correct, they then ship the dodgy goods to you, and then after a short wait, screw your account to the limit. A nice little earner! Screw enough mugs and away you go!

Not your problem? Wait until your card issuer investigates and susses out that the fraudulent transactions started after you provided your account details to a well dodgy outfit in SE Asia to purchase non-legit goods. Who`s gonna be left with the liability then?

If you can get stuff cheap down the market or whatever, then fine, but be bl**dy careful who you give your credit card details to!

RE: Sexy Beast/Gangster No1/Limey - Misprice at Streetsonline??

As they`ve stopped answering my e-mails I rang them today. They say they can`t fulfill the order as it stands and have asked me to re-order and promise to adjust my credit card bill to reflect the original price.

I asked them to put this in writing, which they`ve done, and I`ve re-ordered it today. I`ll keep you posted on how I get on. Appalling service I know, but we don`t complain when their inefficiency presents us with a price error in the first place do we!

RE: WHARFDALE DTS PROBLEMS

I get this problem on Region 1 discs only. Region 2 plays back DTS no problem.

RE: Sexy Beast/Gangster No1/Limey - Misprice at Streetsonline??

I e-mailed them a week or so ago and they confirmed that the release date had been put back from 16th to 30th September, but confirmed that my order was still valid and that it would be fulfilled at the £10-49 price providing I did not cancel. The site now says it`s in stock, but my order still says it`s being processed. I`ve written to them again tonight.

This has now gone from £10-49 in August, to £17-99 last week, to £20-99 this week! Hold on in there!

RE: PLAY.COM providing misleading stock info???

I`ve just had an e-mail from Play advising that Harry Potter has been mailed to me today, and when checking at `my account` it gives a Recorded Delivery ref no. which I take as confirmation that it has definately been mailed. It still says released on 11/05/02 on the web-site, so it seems to me that they are playing by the rules. They`ve obviously got pre-orders in stock now, but aren`t saying `in stock` for new orders. Generally I think Play are pretty upfront with this type of thing <plugs ears for inevitable `I ordered blah blah blah and it took 2 years to be delivered blah blah blah response>, but feel free to disagree!!!

RE: What the music on the Channel 4 advert`s for R.I.S.E?

Yeah, it`s Mercury Rev`s `Holes` from the Deserter`s Songs album

RE: A.I second disc

From the Play web-site: "Please note: some customers owning the original specification Wharfedale 750 machine may encounter difficulties viewing the bonus disc of this title."

RE: Suitable speaker stands for Sony HTK215

At the back end of Jan I picked up a pair of Alphason Design rear speaker stands from www.robinsonselectric.co.uk/speaker_stands.htm
They are SS20`s, cost £24:35 plus £10 p&p, and are going out from Currys etc for around £60!! My HTK215 speakers fit on them fine and sound great.

I ordered by phone, and they were delivered direct from Alphason within 3 or 4 days.

If you don`t fancy those, go to www.alphasondesigns.com for a few other options.

RE: Buy one, get one free at Woolworths!!!

In addition, you can also get a copy of either Reservoir Dogs or Jumanji for £5.99 eg. I bought Close Encounters (2 discs), Snatch (2 discs) and Reservoir Dogs for £28:98. Otherwise it`s not much of a better deal than you can get on these movies elsewhere!

RE: DIE HARD 1 AND 2, 4 DISC SET FOR £21.99

Hmmm, £34.99 at my local Tesco. Die Harder Special Edition is going out at 21.99 - maybe Slough store have simply mis-priced?

RE: Steps Gold DVD

I`ve no idea I`m afraid. But, if you haven`t already, a good place to visit is www.dvdeastereggs.com.............but that`s for future reference as I`ve just been there and there`s nothing for Steps! Sorry!

The Beatles Movies On DVD - When?

Anyone have any info on when we can expect to see A Hard Day`s Night, Help etc. on DVD? I know Yellow Submarine is available, but what about the others. Also, what about the Anthology series?

RE: Unbeatable.co.uk

I cancelled an order for the HTK215 through Unbeatable on Monday. I ordered 3 weeks ago, was given the 10-14 day delivery story, rang them after 12 days for an update, was told it was due in on 18th Jan. I rang on 18th and was told they`d had an order in that day that included all back orders. I waited a couple of days but heard nothing, so rang again and was told I was number 35 in a queue of 53, that the kit is `on allocation` from Sony, meaning that they are only coming into Unbeatable in small lots. They know Sony are struggling, they know they can`t fulfill orders for a couple of months at least, but still quote 10-14 days and give you bull**** when you ring to follow up. The price may be low, but they are less than honest with their sales. You make your own call I suppose - take the bull, wait 8 - 10 weeks and save £75, or go the Curry`s.....

RE: Got a Sony DVP-NS400D. Should I get a Sony HTK215 set-up?

Got my HTK215 this weekend. You do need an optical toslink to toslink. I got mine from Curry`s for 12.99, although you can pay £30 for an IXOS cable!

I`ve not had any humming from my sub-woofer, and have no complaints about the sound. I`ve watched Hannibal today with DTS audio, and the shoot-out at the beginning was awesome. My room is 15 x 12 and the sound fills the room and more.

For its price I`d recommend it, although there appears to be a split decision on this forum between the Sony kit and the Yamaha VS10.

Sony are struggling to supply some of the on-line retailers like Unbeatable btw. Who will take your order, quote 10-14 days and three weeks later tell you it will probably not be in until March!!!!

RE: Surround Sound Newbie needs Help!

You`re right, the Wharfedale does not have a built in decoder. I have the 750s which can output 5.1 and DTS but it needs to be hooked up to an amp with a suitable decoder - HTK215 in my case.

RE: Surround Sound Newbie needs Help!

HTK215 does have a DTS decoder onboard. For some reason not even the Sony web-site states this. Possibly because DTS is still in its infancy in the UK, so it`s not seen as a selling point. Search this site for 215 reviews - they`re generally positive.

RE: Sony HTK215 Mini Amp Surround Kit

I`ve got one on order from www.unbeatable.co.uk so I can`t yet comment on the performance. However, if you don`t mind waiting a couple of weeks for delivery you can get it from there for £266.99, compared to the £350 in the high street.

Aaaarrghh!!! Please ignore my advice regarding Unbeatable. It`s been on order for three weeks, they promised delivery for last week, then this week, then early next week, and have today told me `it`s on allocation at Sony so we`re only getting a few in at a time, and you`re number 35 in a queue of 53`!!!! They say it could be March!!!

RE: Wharfedale 750s Optical Digital Connection To Sony HTK215

Thanks to both `gingerone` & `bounce`, I`ve now got the right lead. I now have to wait for the Sony kit which Unbeatable assure me will be delivered early next week. Once again, thanks very much for your help!

Wharfedale 750s Optical Digital Connection To Sony HTK215

I`ve got an HTK215 on order from Unbeatable, and I know that it must have an optical digital lead (thanks to postings here), and I`ve also read on this forum that this needs to be toslink to toslink. I bought a cheap JVC lead in Curry`s which is labelled as a minidisc recording lead, but the assistant insisted it would be ok for my purpose. I`ve tried this in the Digital Out on the DVD and it is a very very loose fit, falling out with a slight prod. Is this normal? Have I bought the wrong lead? Should I buy the £30 lead in Dixons which is definately toslink to toslink? is my Wharfedale connection dodgy (it doesn`t appear to be loose) What does everyone else use? Er, help please!! Thanks!!
