Review of Marc Almond The Willing Sinner

    4 / 10

    Introduction

When I think of Marc Almond, stunning and magnificent are not the words that spring to mind. Ever since the early eighties, when I first heard the drones of a much overrated tune called Tainted Love I`ve loathed Mr Almond, you may have heard it too!
Don`t get me wrong, this has nothing to do with his sexual orientation, I was a big fan of Frankie Goes to Hollywood in the eighties. I just don`t like his voice or musical style, and to be subjected to an hour of him warbling his insipidly dull tunes is just too much for me.
There is also the "love but can`t watch factor." I love Elton John`s music but I can`t abide to sit and watch his outright flambouyent and camped up performances. The same goes for Mr Almond with the added value of not liking his music either.

At this stage I must apologise to all Marc fans, because I`m sure there are hundreds, sorry I mean millions. This DVD will please them as Marc is actually on "top form" (at least that`s what my friend said, who used to be in the Marc Almond fan club).

    Video

The 1.33.1 picture is clean and sharp but suffers greatly from major macro blocking. The colours are vivid and strong but bleed and edge enhancement are at levels that distract. Blacks are grey and whites, although bright and sharp, do halo and smear badly.

    Audio

To me music based DVDs should sound awesome in 5.1 DD sound, no excuses. The Eagles pulled it off fabulously with their Hell Freezes Over DVD in DTS and DD5.1, but many other don`t put the same care and attention into creating good music discs. The whole experience on this DVD is flat. The limited bass extension fails to lift the almost mono and tinny sounding track to any level of quality.

    Features

    Two bonus tracks...a bonus...right!

    Conclusion

I my eyes a poor artist, with a poor DVD. To fans it`s just a poor DVD with little to recommend to them on both sound and vision fronts. Buy at your own risk.
