Review of Dirty Sanchez European Invasion The Complete 3rd Series

    4 / 10

    Introduction

It`s difficult to know where to start with a review of "Dirty Sanchez: European Invasion", especially for someone, like me, who has never seen the MTV TV show in the past. Having found out exactly what a "dirty sanchez" is, I am sorry to say that several decency laws prohibit me from actually letting you in on the secret. Having watched this 2-disc DVD set, neither am I sure what the purpose of this television show is, other than to bring more unadulterated insanity to our screens.

"European Invasion" - the 3rd series of Dirty Sanchez - follows the fortunes of Welshmen Pritchard, Dainton and Pancho, along with their Plymouth colleague Joycey. Pritchard and Dainton originally met through their mutual love of skateboarding, and soon took to recording the pranks they would play on one another. This is where MTV stepped in, commissioning a series that would be considered the British version of Jackass.

This DVD set contains the entire "European Invasion" series - six episodes - plus an extras disc purporting "over 3 hours of the darkest, dirtiest, most gut-wrenching footage ever seen in Europe".

    Video

Video is presented in 4:3 fullscreen PAL, and is exactly like watching the original digital satellite broadcast.

    Audio

Audio is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0, identical to the stereo format used for the original broadcast.

    Features

In many ways, the extras on this set are identical in nature to the series itself. There is a photo gallery, but aside from that, the extras are simply more shenanigans with the guys, including a self-circumcision, Pritchard putting his hand in a mouse-trap, and Pancho throwing up.

    Lovely.

    Conclusion

I don`t think there are any two ways about it: either you find this type of television programme hilarious, or you marvel at the senselessness of it. Categorically, I am in the latter camp, and I found nothing amusing or intriguing about this show or the people who comprise it. Several of the stunts attempted sent shudders down my spine, and the gross-out moments were…well, I`ll leave it at gross.

On the back of the set`s packaging - which is well done, by the way - the question
"How far can too far go?" is asked. Having watched nearly five hours of Dirty Sanchez, I`m more inclined to ask, "When is enough, enough?"
