Review of Sheryl Crow: Rockin` The Globe Live

    8 / 10

    Introduction

If you read my recent column, you`ll know my opinions about the lack of music on DVD. But there are a few titles available that I actually own. This is one of them.

Sheryl Crow has been around for a long while. She was a backing singer for Michael Jackson (an experience which inspired one of the songs on Tuesday Night Music Club, her first album). That first album was around for quite a while before masses of radio play made "All I Wanna Do" a big hit, and got Sheryl noticed. There was even a ropey dance cover version at one point.

    Video

This is a live concert recording, taped at the Globe Theatre in Detroit. It`s shot in 4:3, and the video quality is rather lacking. The venue is pretty dark, Sheryl is dressed all in black, and there`s no massive light show. But you`re not really interested in this disc for the video quality so this can probably be forgiven.

    Audio

Three audio tracks are available here, and they range from good (DD2.0), to very good (DD5.1), to excellent (dts). There`s nothing wrong with either of the DD tracks as they sound very good indeed, but the dts track wins again as it just has that extra edge. Another DVD to file under the "play it loud" category.

    Features

No extra features here. Maybe some interview footage or backstage stuff could have been included? Maybe some rehearsal footage? Again, a lack of extras can just about be forgiven as it`s the music that makes this disc a winner.

    Conclusion

Do you like Sheryl Crow? Then you`ll like this disc. If you`re not a fan by now then this disc isn`t one that will interest you greatly. The audio quality (especially on the dts track) is excellent, and fans will probably want to own this top-notch sounding disc.
