    Review of House: Special Edition

    8 / 10

    Introduction

Sean S. Cunningham creator of the Friday The 13th series and director Steve Miner (Friday The 13th Parts 2 and 3, Lake Placid, Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later) bring us an assortment of ghouls and ghosts in the form of this horror comedy House. This was a big hit back in 1986 I`m sure I`ve still got a warn out copy of both House and House II somewhere in my house, Eh!

    Video

The anamorphic picture suffers slightly due to age. The low budget aspect of this film meant it was probably shot on old stock that hasn`t stood the test of time too well. It is very watchable and still better than good VHS.

    Audio

Sound in glorious DD 5.1 is a little harsh and the bass effects don`t really hit the level they should in parts. Surrounds are used to good effect though and create some eerie moments.

    Features

A nice 12-minute documentary is interesting and has some good anecdotes as does the audio commentary with the Director, Producer and William Katt, who plays the house`s owner Rodger Cobb. You also get a series of Anamorphic trailers and a stills gallery of promotional material

    Conclusion

It`s up there as one of the all time greatest horror comedies, it pales under the likes of American Werewolf in London and Return of the Living Dead but holds its own with great slapstick performances. It`s not crammed with extras but what`s there is entertaining and makes it a DVD well worth a second watch.
