    Review of Titanica: IMAX

    6 / 10

    Video

Titanica is the IMAX film of the real wreck of the Titanic that has been shown in several IMAX theatres worldwide. It was made in 1992 and features some stunning shots of the actual wreck site before the world had seen James Cameron`s epic Titanic movie.

One can only imagine how this would have looked on the eighty foot high IMAX screens, but on the home cinema screen this DVD is very powerful. It is presented in 4:3 ratio, cropped slightly from the original IMAX version.

The picture is bright and shot in such a way to present the claustrophobic atmosphere of being inside the submersibles exploring the Titanic wreck site. The film is 67 minutes long and divided into 13 chapters.

    Audio

Leonard (`Spock`) Nimoy provides the narration, and a full 5.1 soundtrack is incorporated. This presumably being another benefit of the IMAX film - this film was designed to impress the audience!

    Features

There are no extras on this disc, and the menus are static.

    Conclusion

For Titanic fans, this is a great DVD. The footage of the actual wreck, and the interviews with the survivors make compelling viewing. Factually it is fascinating, and the film is moving also, with its graphic depiction of how society was in the early 1900s.
