Review for WWE Raw The Best of 2010

7 / 10

This set definitely lives up to its word that it is the Best of Raw from 2010. There is very little on these three disks that is awful, but when you consider that Raw is aired every week that means that in 2010 there is over a hundred hours of Raw filmed over the year and yet only about eight hours are presented here. Does that mean that this is the best eight hours or over the hundred hours is this the only good stuff? Either way it is a good look back on 2010 on Raw.
The return of Bret Hart and his interaction with Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon was just perfect and for those who know the history behind it will appreciate just how big those moments were. The build between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania was great to relive and Shawn Michaels' farewell was fitting. His match against Kane is actually one of the best I've seen from Kane and certainly a great match from Shawn Michaels. This went on to be his last match on Raw and certainly a fitting end to it. Batista's evolution to his heel/bad guy character is actually pretty good and his quitting proved to be true as he did leave shortly after. This was countered by the face/good guy character change of Randy Orton which I again understand, but I'm still not sure about it.
Of course the main story that everyone will remember from WWE in 2010 was the emergence of Nexus as the dominant Heel Stable in the company and their war against WWE. This is shown almost in its entirety with some great highlights (Though it is surprising they included the attack on Ricky Steamboat which actually resulted in his severe injury) including Nexus leader Wade Barrett's match against Chris Jericho, but sadly no other matches are included, which is odd.
The look back at 900 episodes of Raw by CM Punk was wonderful as was the move away from the Guest Hot to the Anonymous GM and evolution of Michael Cole as almost the Heel Announcer which was perfect.
Match-wise there are some great ones on this set. DX vs. Jerishow is a great tag match and I don't think I've said that enough recently. As is the triple threat tag match between DX, CM Punk and Luke Gallows and ShowMiz which as I say is surprising. In fact, most of the matches that involve ShowMiz are great. John Cena vs. Sheamus is good, but would have been better if the title had been on the line as was the match between Christian and Sheamus which again is a great match, but if either title was on the line (Christian was ECW Champion at the time) it would have made it a little better. Edge vs. Christian is a great match and I only wish that WWE would pull the trigger and either give us the prolonged feud between Edge and Christian that we have been begging for... or have them reteam. Either way would fine. One of things I will mention is that if you are a fan of Chris Jericho (And who isn't?) you will love this set as it includes six of his matches including an excellent match against Evan Bourne and Triple Threat against Randy Orton and Edge.
The two stars who seemed to shine in WWE in 2010 were The Miz and Daniel Bryan. Though sadly there are only a few matches with them involved The Miz vs. John Cena, Miz cashing in his Money in the Bank and Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler are all great matches. Of course I can't not mention John Cena who is all over this set and if you are a fan of his this includes four matches and multiple segments throughout including a wonderful Piper's Pit with Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper.
The Best of Raw 2010 is actually a pretty good DVD set and sometimes I wish I could just miss out on all the WWE I watch over the year and just watch one of these sets. Firstly because it will save me over ninety hours, but mostly because the footage, segments and matches throughout the set are actually not so bad, with only a few bits that I wish I hadn't watched. If you want a recap of 2010 in Raw this set is a great one for WWE fans.
