The big battle (took the whole flaming episode, and quite rightly so).....

SPOILER:
First time we saw the full length of the ice wall tunnel in all its glory, and its rather short.

From an engineering point of view it would not have taken that long to burn down the supports and melt/collapse the tunnel and prevent 10, 000 nutters getting through. Mind you they were in the heat of battle, and time was against them.

The big pendulum scrappers was the first use of an unknown besieged weapon (never used in our world, I think), it was a real eye opener, and fairly effective in taking the climbers off the wall.

Definitely one of the best battles so far in Game Of Thrones. 

Well, that's the season ended with nice music at the end, to sooth the nerves 

SPOILER:
The hound might live, maybe ???? (though the fight was a bit un-needed).

So what was the 'iron' at the end about, to persuade the sailor to take the girl north?

SPOILER:
Jaquen, the Bravvosi assassin who helps Arya escape Haarenhall at the end of season 2 gives her the coin. He tells her to show it to any man from Bravvos and say "Valor Morgulis" or something similar. I think this means she's off to train as an Assassin

And most importantly, Tyrion still alive! Though shame to see Tywin dead.

My best guess was Jamie would help him escape, didn't predict he'd go on a minor rampage before though.

Lord Varys (the bald Eunuch) decided once hearing the alarm bells in the castle, decided in his wisdom to get on the ship as well, and quite rightly so 

Gareth you've read the books haven't you?. Was there a pretty important reveal between Jaime and Tyrion missed from the finale?

I overheard something today that if true makes perfect sense but definitely shouldn't have been left out in my opinion.
