Premier League - Terrible start sees shocking drop in Manchester United's value

Manchester United's value has plummeted by £250 million to £1.5 billion in just one month all because of their worst start to a season in 24 years.

Man United’s dismal start to the campaign has seen the club’s value drop by a quarter of a billion in just one month, it has been revealed.
According to a report in The Sun, United’s share price has now fallen to £1.5 billion as a result of poor performances and unrest within the club.
It all comes with United seventh in the Premier League table following six defeats before the turn of the year.
David Moyes’s side have also been knocked out of the FA Cup and trail Sunderland 2-1 after the first leg of their League Cup semi-final.
United find themselves trailing leaders and local rivals Manchester City by a full 10 points and football finance consultant Keith Harris has told the newspaper of the extent of the club’s slump.
"The poor on-field results have begun to take a grip that has cost shareholders of Manchester United just under a quarter of a billion pounds," he said.
"The value of the business marked by the share price is worth about £250m less than it was just over a month ago. The Glazers are more interested in Manchester United as a producer of cash for themselves - this is a significant fall by any measure.
"It's a huge sum of money. It's not cash but paper value. It will be something they will inevitably keep their eye on,” he added.
"The Glazers had the opportunity to sell at a higher price than they could fetch today and declined because I think they thought that the curve they were riding was an ever-improving one.
"They are still burdened heavily by interest. In the last five years they paid around £400m in interest and recorded a loss of income in the quarter they just reported."

I didn't see this thread the other day.

It's not been good at all, but it's also far from a disaster given how bad the results have been.

5 points behind Liverpool and they have to come to Old Trafford. Win that and there's 2 points in it (also need to overtake Everton/Spurs inbetween).

RVP, Carrick and Rafael injuries have massively not helped, as 3 of our key players.

Rooney's injury on top, together with other injured players hasn't helped (ie Nani has massively been missed, as inconsistent as he is, he's still a very good player, which would have made difference a few times potentially).

Fellaini may be already classed as terrible signing, but he got the hand injury and tried to play through and his performances were average (same with Joe Allen last year).  He'd definitely have made a difference at times also.

Valencia has regressed horrendously and Cleverley just isn't good enough.

Moyes has made mistakes, but we're not at the point of no return yet.

I'm still waiting until the end of the season until making judgement, as Champions League place is far from impossible (if we hadn't lost to Spurs, we would still be a dark horse for title).

League Cup semi final is only a one goal deficit with the home game to come (it's obviously low on priorities, but if you want to laugh at Sunderland loss you can't then disregard a win).

Champions League we have a relatively good draw compared to the other English teams to make it to the quarter finals.

Most players coming back from injury imminently and performances have been a lot better recently and Moyes is learning which players to bin off completely.

I don't think it's ludicrous to think that Moyes could even lift the trophy this year.  Chelsea and Liverpool were far from their greatest teams when they won it and both were languishing down in 5th in the league.

Would be complete meltdown if Utd do finish outside top 4, Liverpool get it and then Utd win the Champions League to "nick" their spot.  Although the rule was changed after Liverpool's kicking off in 2005, I'm sure the counter argument would around in those circumstances

I said elsewhere that the 'disaster' at Utd has been largely exaggerated.  Having said that there are far too many average (even poor) players there and I'd say without the two top players (RVP and Rooney maybe even more so?) they're ordinary at best.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I thought Paull had taken over your reply then mills! ;)
But I do like the standard Yoo Nited optimism!

If only Spurs hadn't lost three of our games then we'd be top...

Do you think they will sign anyone or offload before end of Jan window?

Perhaps rather than throwing coins at Theo, they could collect all that change together and put it towards a better manager! :)

Rapidly approaching the time when, in managerial terms, 4 months makes a legend.

Well dont know where to start really.....1st off not sure if this season shows just what a genius Fergie was getting this lot to win the title comfortably last season, or how clever he was to leave as his team appears to be over the hill? I completely agreed with Moyes taking over and am stunned at how much he is struggling both on and off the pitch, never thought I would see Man Utd struggling to attract players...and it looks like major unrest at the club if rumours are true and was talking to a die hard Man U fan here watching the Chelski game and he said (and again a rumour) that Zaha has gotten overly friendly with Moyes daughter and in his words "will never put on a Man U shirt while Moyes is boss". As for the Chelsea game Man U were woeful, I mean apart from 1st 5 minutes they had no fight, never seen the team lose so many 50/50 challenges and the injuries to Fellaini, Van Persie and Rooney obviously not helping. With CL now out of the question, cup aside I wouldnt fancy them just now for Europa League tbh and the financial connotations this brings I fear Glazier will call time on this experiment at the seasons end and bring in one of the big guns from Europe.

One thing in Moyes favour is Ferguson picked him, and Fergie doesn't strike me as the sort of person to admit he was wrong.

Listening to 5Live talking about this last night and they reckon due to the huge sponsorship deals they've done recently (New record breaking deal with Nike) missing out on Champs league won't be a huge dent, financially at least, so he may get the time.
I love the way they talk about it being 'only' about 30 to 40 million.

On the field he may turn it round depends how much he gets to spend and when he gets to spend it, Jan looking unlikely.

Despite RVP's nice words in the press apparently he's not even training yet with his mystery thigh injury and Rooney's off sunning himself abroad with the clubs consent 'to aid his recovery'.

General agreement amongst the pundits that it's a big rebuilding job, maybe not the 12 players Savage reckons in his article but not far off and obviously not in one hit.

I suppose it's a trade off between the clubs pulling power and Moyes lack of. Win a pot and it may change players opinions but they've moved well down the pecking order for the really top ones.
