Should Beckham be back in the England squad ?

dkuk2000 (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 29th May 2007, 18:26

When McClaren announced he was dropping Becks i thought great finally somebody with the balls to drop Becks to the bench.
When i watched the press conference i couldn`t believe that he had been dropped totally.
Now several matches since and England are looking flat, lacking, lacking creativity and the fans have turned on McClaren, suddenly McClaren has included Beckham in his latest squad.
Is this just a case of McClaren trying to save his own ass or is Beckhams return for the good of the nation ?.

Bit of both really. Despite not being a huge Beckham fan, I`m quite pleased that McClaren has had to eat humble pie after the disgraceful way his ex-Captain was treated.

I`m sad England have been even more rubbish since the World Cup without him than they had been with him.

Though I agreed Beckham had to make way at the time for a `fresh start` he`s earned his recall.

He didn`t throw the toys out of the pram, he got on with it. Looked like he`d be warming the bench for Real after agreeing the transfer but he`s fought his way back into Capello`s team and appears to have been very impressive in the past few months.

Don`t like the circus that surrounds him but IF he can come in and do a good job for the team I`m all for it.

Ive never been a fan of Beckham, but you cant deny he has a habbit of popping up with a touch of magic now and again. Still one of if not the best player from a dead ball situation. When he was dropped to make way for the `new guys` I though well yeah hes had his day to an extent and its time to move on, bring thru the younger players and develop the team for the future. Fair play to Beckham he took it on the chin and `retired` with grace

England under McClaren have been poor and the fans are on his back (rightfully so imo) he needs to save his job, best way is to please the fans whom have been chanting for Beckham over the last few games...weather they have chanted for Becks cos they want him or just to taunt McClaren I dunno.....

I think if a player is playing badly he should be dropped, whoever he is, if a player is playing well he should be considered, Beckham is playing well so has earned his place

..still think its a backwards step though we cant rely on wheeling him out in times of need forever, we need to find the new Becks, not bank on his ever aging legs pulling us out of the s*** :/

Beckham is in very good form and from what I hear Capello now regrets letting him leave Real.

If McLaren calls bringing Phil Neville back into the squad a `fresh start`, then why is Beckham such an issue??

SMc hasn`t got a clue. I watched his interview on the bbc website and the way he bluffed and blagged his way round the Beckham issue was embarrassing.

Now that `big Sam` is at Toon, who would replace him if we lose to Estonia?

It is rumoured that SMc has been "leant on" by his superiors from a marketing side of things with this "big game" against Brazil to represent the reopening of Wembley to International footy

I think it depends which way you want to look at it really. The way i see it, we NEED a win against Estonia, so its pretty simple. Play the best players possible. The ways Becks is playing for Real Madrid, i think he deserves to be in the England squad.

I`ve said on several forums that Beckham should not have been dropped & he is one of our best player`s, but no the tossers all had there way & guess what,we have played like crap. Today Beckham was back & was the best man on the pitch & also made our goal & very nearly made a couple of others, something we havn`t made since Beckham was disgracefully dropped by MuckClarren.

Fair play Paull, when people said you couldn`t outgay your Ronaldo sig, you weren`t the kind of person who would take that sitting down. ;)

Is it my or does it look like the aim/target on Beckham?

Seriously though 1 game doesn`t mean anything. Did anyone watch the Brazil-Wales friendly?
