Page 1 of Advice PC gaming re controller
PCs & Mobiles Forum
I recently opened a steam account because I wanted to try the recent Tomb Raider reboot but I can't get used to playing using the keyboard. I looked at Amazon for PC controller's but most of the units I looked at had terrible feedback. This Microsoft one seems to get good reviews but before buying one I just wondered if anyone here had any recommendations?
My PC has built in Bluetooth but I don't mind it having a cable. I'd rather buy a decent unit rather than buying a cheapo that doesn't last 5 minutes.
Thanks.
Do you own a console? I ask as you can use the PS3/4 controller on a PC with third-party drivers.

Err, I didn't know that.
I only have one PS3 controller, is it easy to pair it again to the console after using it on the PC?
Any idea where to get the drivers?
Thanks
You can also use the xbox 360 controller, of course.
I use this

to pair my ps3 blu ray remote with my PC, it's a bit of a faff switching between ps3 and pc, I guess depends how often you do it, there's similar 3rd party apps/utils for controllers.
I've got a wired MS XBox 360 controller for the pc, works fine.

The Xbox controllers are a pain as they need batteries, hence the PS3 recommendation.
I use Better DS3 and it's very easy. It requires something called DS3 Tool (which was the original piece of software that allowed for PS3 controllers on Windows), but I greatly prefer the Better DS3 interface.
Anyway, visit the page below and download driver version 071001 for Windows 7.

Once the driver is installed I would then recommend getting Better DS3 as DS3 Tool's interface really is a cluster...

There are a bunch of tutorials (both video and text) out there, but it really is quite simple to set up. One thing though - tell Better DS3 (and therefore Windows) that you're using an Xbox controller in the preset profile list. It just works better than the PS3 preset.
I don't use the Bluetooth side of things BTW. I just have a USB cable between the PC and controller, which has the added benefit of meaning that the battery never runs out!

RE: Advice PC gaming re controller
Xbox controllers for PC are ace. Just get a charging station with rechargeable batteries.
Got mine a couple of years ago now and not used k/b & mouse for anything bar FPS...
