Fast User Switching on Windows XP won`t work

Fitz (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 7th August 2007, 15:52

No idea why but the Fast User Switching feature on Windows XP no longer functions. As Administrator I go into "Change the way in which users log on and off" and check the box for Fast User Switching, then Apply. Then I try to log off and switch users but nothing happens. So I go back to the check box for Fast User Switching and the check mark has disappeared. In other words the feature hasn`t been applied. Any ideas please ? TIA

Hi Fitz, do you have Terminal services disabled at all? If so, you need to have it set to automatic for fast user switching to work.

If you are not sure type `services.msc` in the run box and locate terminal services, double click it and assuming it is disabled, set startup type to automatic.

hope this helps

Are you logging on in classic mode or XP default click on the icon?

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.
