Problem with old Bush CRT/freeview TV

MADTheOgster (Elite Donator) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd December 2009, 08:45

Came downstairs this morning & did the required retune on our ancient freeview tv, but no matter how many times we try, it won`t pick up a single channel :(. It`s a very old set, branded "on-digital" so probably one of the first freeview ready tv sets.

I`ve read that some older freeview boxes are now obsolete, could this be the case with this, or has it just picked a freaky time to die ?

Was working fine last night, & I still get freeview on the same ariel upstairs...

Crikey, sounds like a dinosaur! "On-Digital" is positvely pre-historic! :D

I know my Dad`s old Nokia set top box finally gave up the ghost last year because it was no longer compatible - that was "On-Digital" too, so maybe that is the case here. However, it could be that you picked a very bad time to try and retune. How strong is the signal where you are?

Just because you are receiving channels upstairs and were doing so on that set until yesterday, don`t mean you would continue to do so after a retune. I suggest you at least try again when it isn`t raining or cloudy and see what happens then.

I re tuned both this morning, did the bush set first, then cos of the problems I tried re tuning the one upstairs, to make sure the ariel etc where ok, the upstairs set tuned in perfectly, went back downstairs right away & tried re tuning again, but it still wouldn`t detect any channels at all :(

Could always buy a cheapo Freeview box and plug that into the aerial socket. Scart socket.. Whatever.

Since it`s from the OnDigital era, the tuner will almost certainly not cope with the 8K carrier transmissions that Freeview is using post DSO.
It will be junk; the origianl DVB-T tuner chipsets were only 2K DVB mode compatible (in order to get them onto the market in time).
