Have a read of the Beebs precis of the situation if your not familiar with the story. One question that occurs to me after reading it is if this is even possible for Apple doesn't the back door already exist but they just choose no to use it.

My vote's gone to Apple

I used to be with it, but then they changed what `it` was.
Now, what I`m with isn`t it, and what`s `it` seems weird and scary

No brainer for me, secure means secure from everyone, a backdoor is a backdoor. If Apple are aware of a way to get access to their own phones, then anyone can do it.

Just like jailbreaking.

Looks like Apple has won on our voting system, so this will make the world all the safer now, that there is no back door (that we know about).

what am I worried about, I do not even own a Smart phone, ha ha.

...and there's the problem with all the 'nothing to hide' brigade. If it doesn't affect their comfort zone they're not bothered.

Not aimed at you Bandi I know your convinced they're all b'stards and they're all out to get us.

I've seen Person of Interest, why can't they just clone his phone?

Also, are they saying that FBI techs are unable to put in a known security code and then remove the security code completely so the phone never locks?

I initially had some sympathy for the FBI but now it's clear they're chancing their arm and this is not about this particular phone.

Your right there, they are out to get us

Do you know about the microphone in voice recognition Smart TV's now, capable of remote recording your comments and sending this data to 'whoever' direct from your living room. So watch what your saying, or put a pillow over the microphone.

Well before the first iPhone but the principle is there.

Quote:
In October 1995, Shin Bet operatives approached Kamil Hamad. After the Shin Bet threatened to inform Hamas of his betrayal, Kamil Hamad agreed to cooperate. Shin Bet agents gave Hamad a cell phone, and told him it was bugged so they could listen in on Ayyash's conversations.[14] They did not tell Hamad that, in addition to eavesdropping devices, it also contained 15 grams of RDX explosive.[3]

Kamil Hamad gave the phone to his nephew Osama, knowing that Ayyash regularly used Osama's phones.[15] At 8:00 am on 5 January 1996, Ayyash's father called him. Ayyash picked it up and talked with his father. Overhead, an Israeli plane picked up their conversation and relayed it to an Israeli command post. When it was confirmed that it was Ayyash on the phone, Shin Bet remotely detonated it, killing Ayyash instantly.
