This guy has gone into amazing details with his reviews of torches, batteries and battery chargers:

Here's the charger I have:

its always cost via how long they last.

I tend to buy those cheap batteries from poundland, and I know they dont last, its just theys plenty more in the packet, so bung them in.

The one thing I do get angry at , its seeing the return of leaking batteries, for example a mega buy I got from Poundstretcher, which started leaking from all the electrical apparatus I put them in, and was not pleased with the mess they made. For example a wall clock leaked rusty fluid all down the wall.

I took the batteries back to the shop and reported it to them, and they were withdrawn from sale, and got my money back, but damage was done to equipment which I did not get compensation for.

Its years since i saw battery cases that leaked and corroded.

It is, but a cheap battery is a false economy. A good battery that is cheap however...

Hybrios/Eneloops are the way to go these days. Get those and a decent charger, you'll save a lot. Old rechargeables lost their charge sitting on the shelf, or sitting inside unused equipment, and the 1,000 recharge cycles quickly became a bit of a joke.

The new technology used in H/Es means they only lose 20% of their charge after one year without use, so you can actually charge them up before you need them.

Some of the battery comparison charts are interesting, Duracell high power batteries lasting hardly anytime at all vs a rechargeable, when the current drain is high. :o
