The next one will probably be twice that, and then there will probably be one which kindly says you can pay £40 or something similar within 7 days and we'll think no more about it.

Then it'll go to a "debt collection agency" which is probably owned by the same company.

The AA do exactly the same thing... they charged me by direct debit for an account i had not even set up, when i cancelled the direct debit and asked the bank to charge back they sent it to a debt colection agency... strange thing was they were both located in the same building!

A bit of google detective work found that they were a dept within the AA, even though they denied such a thing, i refused to pay them, told them i would see them in court, and i would be hiring a defence barrister to defend my case (courtesy of Fed), and guess what two years later i have heard nothing from them!

Another thing about camera recognition in these carparks is that they can be fooled, to your cost.

One story was that a white van guy went into a camrea controlled costa coffree carpark in the morning and left 15 minutes later, but returned in the afternoon for another 15 min coffee break and the camera took his morning time in and his afternoon time out, and sent him a bill for being in the carpark more than two hours.

Luckly his van had a built-in satnat recorder for his firm (spy in the cab) snooping on his movements, which the employees were aware off, so they do not deviate too much off their rounds). This had a record of only being in the the carpark a total of 30 min for that day.

They sent a copy of the van records for that day and the bill was cancelled.

Moral: do not  enter camera controlled carparks more than once in the same day.

May being the operative word. Asda is the landlord, do you think they'll take you to court?

Just ignore it.

How did yours finish Rob did it just fizzle out?

I`ve got one at a similar stage. Just got the increased to £160 and passed to a debt recovery etc.
Probably the same addresss if I`d cared to check.

Fizzled out, there is no legal basis for these fines. The letters disgust me, if I was rich id put all these scamming companies out of business.

Be brave, if its not a ticket from a traffic warden on behalf of the council who have bylaws, or the police, it has NO legal basis and the whole process is designed to frighten you into paying money. If that's not a scan what is?

If you google these toe-rags you'll find some threads on Money Saving Expert forum where people recommend complaining to the Asda store manager for treating their customers this way. And if they pretend it's nothing to do with them, complain even louder because they contracted these people to do it on their behalf.

Oh and they all say just ignore them all.

Now here`s an interesting development.
Matter passed to a debt collection agency who written and have just tried to phone me on my mobile which I have never given out to them.
As she wouldn`t tell me what it was about and when asked who the company was just replied "we`re a company."
Would I ring them back when I`ve received the letter.
Any suggested responses for future phone calls.

EDIT: Incidentally if it makes any difference the original company was Vehicle Control Services not Smart parking.
