What`s the current wait time on a Sky HD install?

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 9th June 2009, 22:59

Just thought if anyone knew, to save a call to Sky. A family member told me 3 months, but I was wondering if anyone else had any other information that might better inform me?

3months?

Unless there`s been some major revamp on boxes recently and there`s a stock shortage, that sounds excessive. When we ordered (for the whole 2days in nov) I phoned on Thurs evening and they said they could do it on the Saturday :o

I`m probably about to upgrade again for mums house and a wait has never been mentioned. I wouldn`t guess there`s been a big increase in uptake since November what with the old "credit crunch". There may be a delay on weekend installations maybe dependent on area though.

In fact, I`m probably sorting out mine tomorrow night or Thurs, so I`ll come back when I have some more useful information :D

I`ve see the SkyHD box for £30 for new customers advertised at Curry`s

Also over on "cough" AVforums, an installer is also offering £30 for new customers

I registered for Sky HD on the 30th of March, and had it installed on the 5th of June.

If you`re in a hurry, do a self-install.

1/ Buy the box yourself from ebay or a satellite shop.
2/ Plug in the two feeds from your existing SKY+ box
3/ Phone SKY and tell them to switch on the HD channels

That`s what I did, I didn`t wait for SKY.
HD boxes are going for various prices on ebay.
I wouldn`t be scared of buying one off there.
Chances are the `new` box you get from the SKY engineer will be a refurbished one anyway! :/
Besides, even if you do buy the box yourself, SKY will still give you a new one if anything goes wrong.
I`m on my third SKY HD box, they never ever queried the fact I didn`t get the first one from them. :D

Think it depends where abouts in the country you are.

I got mine within a week in the north east...but apparently some areas are higher demand though.

Almost wish I hadn`t bothered now though, the installer made a right mess of the brickwork outside.

bowfer, is it actually cheaper to buy a Sky HD box from eBay and the like? And are Sky okay with that type of thing? I wouldn`t want to buy a box and find that Sky won`t allow me to view the HD channels as I didn`t go through them.
