Well if they can get away with James Bond type stealth horse boxes, I think we should be allowed revolving number plates :D

I`ll never understand this, maybe because I don`t actually drive... but at the risk of becoming unpopular / getting some hefty flack, it seems incredibly simple:

If you don`t speed, you don`t need to worry. Stick to the speed limit and stop moaning if you get caught otherwise! If you put your foot down, you`ve only got yourself to blame guys.

There speaks someone who has never been caught speeding and lectured by the police for being 5mph over the speed limit whilst over the road someone was being mugged/robbed/abused etc

No, but here speaks someone who has seen a 13 year old on a zebra crossing get broadsided by a twat in a Merc who decided that 30mph wasn`t going to get him home quickly enough. And hopes he never sees anything like that ever again.

It`s a limit, not a target. If you go over it, why are you complaining?

You said it yourself mate......go and post on a thread you know something about!

Oh, and I don`t have any points for speeding either after 20 years of driving, but this is still wrong.

Oooooh, ooooooh, tag me! Tag me!
I love threads about speeding, they always get really heated! :D

Everybody`s right! If you don`t want to get points don`t speed. BUT the government have gone the wrong way about trying to stop people speeding. The right way is through education (I think the "hit me at 40 and I die" adverts are particular good) and hiding cameras in horse boxes is just going to wind people up. The whole premise of stopping people speeding has to be safety but trying to get this across without fining or giving points is not going to work.

The second issue is low speed limits being set on roads that don`t need them. This also gets people`s goats and (whilst it is no excuse) contributes to them breaking that limit.

As a rule I don`t speed on any non-motorway, bur being a parent, hypocrisy is my middle name, so I do tend to do around 80ish on motorways.

Personally, I think highly visible speed cameras every 100yds on every road would solve the problem instantly.

I learned to drive when I was 18, but I`ve never actually needed a car so never bothered to get one. I was never a particularly confident driver either, but that`s beside the point.

Maybe you could explain that one to me - because here`s how I see it. You drive a car, you have a responsibility to yourself, other drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and everyone else to drive it safely.

That`s common sense, surely? I don`t need to drive in order to see that.

I always hear from drivers about how they got nabbed speeding. Why are you moaning? Take the fine, learn a lesson and slow down next time. That`s why you need to take the lessons, sit the test, etc. There are even those speed signs ringed in red telling you the maximum speed.

edit: If you know where the speed cameras are then most drivers seem to slow down for them, then speed up again once they`re out of the `danger zone`. Great for around schools, town centres, accident blackspots, not much point elsewhere. So I can see the need for hidden ones, helps get the persistent speeders off the roads.:edit

Am I missing something here?
