14 stone 8-year old kid gets to stay with his Mum

Now, i`m not one for breaking up a family, but that mother needs a smack in the head. Every excuse she gave was thinly-disguised laziness.

Here`s a reality check. Take every piece of unhealthy, processed crap out of your larder, pantry, fridge and freezer. No chocolates, no greasy burgers, no Sunny D. Replace said items with healthy food.

He`s 8, if he`s that hungry, trust me. He`ll eat.

It is child abuse.
Tests have proved the child is clinically obese which is now a recognised medical problem in this country - he has no other medical problems eg underactive thyroid he is fat through bad diet.
If he had broken bones or burns etc caused by another he would be classed as `at risk`.
Funny how the posibility of heart failure, diabetes etc caused by another is ok...............makes my blood boil every time >:(

It`s social services overstepping its authority once again. The family needs to be taken in hand - the mother needs a boot up the arse to assert her authority and the eight-year-old needs taking in hand (as I suspect he can wreck the house in a temper tantrum at that weight). What isn`t required is some spotty post-graduate social worker throwing his weight(!) around to assert his authority by breaking up a family. Yes, the kid`s weight is out of hand but his family isn`t fattening him up to make fois gras, they love him and they don`t know how to deny him the food that`s damaging him. Take him off his parents and you`re simply handing him over to foster parents who he`ll think are abusing him by starving him. But then taking a child into care has always been the kneejerk reaction of Social Services, isn`t it? Except when people are genuinely abusing children when they always take f*ck off for an answer.

What do you suggest though? Giving them leaflets on healthy eating?

Seriously I doubt the parent that has let her child get to that stage would do anything without the threat of her child being taken away.

I agree that putting the child into care is a very tricky area, but the mother obviously doesn`t have any discipline.

My cousin used to always go nuts and my auntie would give in every time, she got herself into so much debt buying him a PC among lots of other things he used to demand (we`re talking 1995 so it cost about £1,100 for an 12 year old), but he never did what he promised as he saw it as an easy target so he used to always promise he`d be go to school or whatever if he got a certain thing, but then as soon as he got it would act the same again.

Okay this is a bit different, but it`s the same principal she could give her kid healthy food but he will moan, maybe not eat, but like has been stated above if you leave them no other option they will eat what they are given.

It wouldn`t surprise me if this kid gets everything he wants and has even more technical stuff than Ogster :p

I never got away with it as a kid. If I spat out my food because I "didnt like it" then I was forced to sit at the table until I did eat it. After an hour I was sent to bed without any dinner and was told that I might as well eat it now because it will be served as breakfast if I dont!

Jacks Fish & Chips of Cambridge ridiculously overpriced and overpackaged chips. £1.20 for a stupidly small portion of chips - they need to go up north for a good lesson in fish and chips
Alloy Bodies of Manchester - The Grand Daddy & Benchmark for shockingly poor customer service.
Capital Bank Leasing who are part of [B]BOS
& are f**ing useless & struggle to action the smallest request but are fantastically efficient at taking money out of my account

Absolutely diabolical service - how hard is it to change £60 of coins into notes????

Trouble is, even if the mother did try and force her child in to eating healthy, and sent her son to bed without any dinner for refusing to eat, then the child would phone the social services, saying that he was abused, and then she would get penalised for child abuse.

There are plenty of cases where the father is forced to move out of the house, thanks to the social services, and can only have supervised access to their own children, just because the father punished (not physically) the child for being naughty.

It's a catch 22 for the parents, because the kids know that no matter what they do, they can get away with it, and they have the law, and the social services to protect them.

I was talking to the mrs about this last night.

I think that the boy should be left with the mother.

Not for any family value reasons, but so the mother can continue to destroy her shallow part of the gene pool.

I think the government interferes too much in cases like this. If people want to kill themselves and each other in this way, let them. I dont know whether the intention is to create a flourishing peasant underclass, but all this kind of thing is doing is allowing progressively more stupid people the opportunity to have bigger families.

Then they have outside help too allow them to feed, clothe and procreate.

In the good old days, she would have fed him up to that size and he would have been sold to a circus.
