Does anyone know how to get hold of manuals for cars that aren`t sold anymore (more specifically a peugeot 306 1.4 xn)?

At least you can get a manual.

What I don`t like is the fact that some cars currently on the go. do not have a HAYNES manual available. An example follows:-

I bought the wife a Smartcar a year ago, a car thats now been in production for over five years with tens of thousands of these cars running around the UK and even more in Europe, yet HAYNES say that there is not enough owners that would be willing to buy a workshop manual from them, that would make it profitable.

So we have to rely on websites for info, and if stuck, go to the dealer :(

This problem is common to all `low production run cars` as they say.

Hi, you could always download a copy of it from some of the slightly dodgy peer to peer sites. I had a look and it downloaded quickly 19mb for the 306. Obviously if it had the information you required then you could order the manual from the printers ;) and avoid breaching the copyright.

As I have a 306, i have a 306 manual (1998 model) - if there was something specific you are after, i would be happy to scan it and email it. 8-)

Thanks for the help. Are the haynes manuals about doing self repair and tuning stuff or are they the owner manuals which tell you bout all the basic controls and troubleshooting.

Haynes are self repair guides.

Have you tried calling the Manufacturer Customer Service and asking if you cab get old manuals from anywhere?

I had the same problem with a Nissan Silvia Turbo I had a few years ago. It was a low volume car, so not viable to Haynes to make one (which you can understand).

There is an alternative, but it won`t be cheap. You should be able to buy the manufacturers workshop manual (as used in the dealers). Although going from experience 9I`m a fitter/mechanic) they aren`t as easy to understand as a Haynes manual, no photos and stuff. They`ll probably also be pricey, £100 or more I would think. But it is an alternative.

If it`s just settings you`re after, Snap-On and Autodata do manuals that cover the range of cars, giving all the technical data for them, but not instructions.

Mark. :)

There don`t appear to me Haynes manuals for either the Honda HRV or the Seat Leon. :(
