Sequels

Mentioned Independence day to my lad.

'Sequels are never any good.'

Over to you lot.
Sequels that were better than the original?

Depends, some are better, some just as good or some total dross.

Then you get the odd ones that are a triolgy but are just the same film repeated over and over, like 'back to the future'

ESB
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey

What will hold ID42 in good stead is the time between movies. The miniatures and composites are starkly obvious these days, but at the time it was what we had, and it blew us away. The seamless CGI that is ten-a-penny is ideal for large scale disaster porn flicks like these.

I'm not too sure about Goldblum and Gale on the moon, in terms of suspension of disbelief, but it's still looking better than it could have been.

As for the current proliferation of sequels: (NSFW language)

Someone please, shoot me in the head. I had about as much thrill at that prospect of that comic book movie conveyer belt than I did on a school trip to Fords at Dagenham to look at their production line.

But, sequels better than the original... Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. The Good the Bad and the Ugly, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, A Shot in the Dark, Carry on Cleo...

And the most galling part of Marvel's current mentality is that they're confirming sequels left, right and centre, before, and regardless of the original's BO performance, which is pretty bloody arrogant.

I blame Robert Downey Jr.

Answering my own thread I have to say I found 'The Rise'
boring and predictable with dialogue being delivered in a smug 'Yeh whatever' fashion.

'The Fall' however is fantastic, laugh a minute, comedy and completely unmissable.
Who would have believed Mourinho could have pulled out such a transformation of a performance.
