Page 2 of The Thing 2011
DVDs & Films Forum
I`m a huge fan of Carpenters version and also the original "The thing from another world", I watched the 2011 movie last week, I thought the 2011 version was very similar to carpenters however it was more like the 1951 movie (lots of running about in groups & burning stuff).
The thing 2011 was a good movie however it lacked the paranoia of carpenters classic and gave the thing itself far too much screen time too soon, It did a good job of putting things in place for carpenters movie to follow such as the burnt remains outside and the axe in the wall etc.
There were a couple of moments that didn`t add up but on a whole it was a good movie.

I went to see it on the big screen last night and the audio was pretty ferocious. Had the same reaction to it as I did when I watched it the other day, but it`s not terrible. I came home and watched the Carpenter film afterwards.
Right about the audio, it actually caused me physical pain with all the screaming. Ropey CGI too in places too
I`m not ashamed to admit I haven`t actually seen the Carpenter original all in one sitting, but I think I`ll give it a whirl asap.
I must say though, it`s another nail in the coffin of that brainless bint they`ve got doing the Radio 1 reviews. She stated quite categorically that there were plenty of nods to the original, most notably that the `head on legs` was back. Nope, not at all, proving that she either doesn`t watch the movies she`s paid to review, or she doesn`t pay them the slightest bit of attention.

I will say though, the segway into the start of the original is flawless. In fact, as soon as I got in I loaded up the 82 version on youtube and it was like just continuing the same movie

I watched John Carpenters The Thing when it came out & at the time it blew me away. One of my favourite films. We watched the `new` The Thing tonight & thoroughly enjoyed it.

Researchers who study giant viruses obtained a chunk of permafrost that had been frozen for an estimated 30,000 years. Upon thawing it out, they placed it in with some amoeba. Before long, the giant viruses were bursting from the amoeba.
