Opinions on the `Cube` films...?

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Monday, 7th February 2005, 19:59

Watched `Cube` for the first time last night, and I`ve got Cube 2 and Cube Zero to watch next. I was distinctly underwhelmed by the original, expecting alot better considering some of the things I`ve heard about it. The characters were mostly incredibly irritating and...

SPOILER:
I laughed when the female doctor fell to her death!

So are the other two worth watching? Opinions please people, as always! :D

I`ve heard that the sequels are crap. I like the original, certainly not brilliant, but a nice low-budget flick all the same.

I`ve read a couple of reviews for Cube Zero, and it seems to fare okay. Apparently Hypercube is a bit of a gorefest?

I really enjoyed Cube, but it was one of those films where I knew nothing about it until a mate said "Do you want to borrow this, it`s great"

Watched it and loved it.

I saw Cube 2 on Sci Fi channel, and yes it`s gorey, and I thought it started off well, but went down hill and I ended up thinking it was rubbish. Saying that a bloke at work thought it was good from beginning to end!

I haven`t see Cube 0 but what little I have read seems to want to ruin the charm of the original.

I watched Cube Zero the other day. It`s a lot better than the second one, and explains quite a bit about the first one - who watches the watchers.

Not great, but if you liked the first one (which I did - a lot) it`s worth seeing.

Don`t think of yourself as an ugly person. Think of yourself as a beautiful monkey!

Thought Cube was very ordinary, frustrating even as I dont really enjoy films with no start or ending, just a muddled middle.

Saw a bit of Cube 2, looked identical to Cube, so gave up on that. Didnt even know that there was a Cube 0, but wont watch it anyway.

Thought the first Cube film was quite a clever concept. But I think that is when they should have stopped. I thought the other two were not as good.

I think it was a clever idea for a low budget film, only one set and some special effects. But I thought they never really worked out a good reason for the people being their : SPOILER:
other than, hey we built it, so now we gotta use it, so lets start abducting folk to put in it and see if anyone comes out! That frankly is one CRAP idea
When you think about it the idea of the cube is really something you would expect as the end piece of a movie, the final big event to be confronted, not the entire movie. But you`ve got to give them full marks for coming up with it.

the original had no reason for why they were there, it wasn`t meant to and since the sequels weren`t written by the original writer the reasons given are no better than one you could make up yourself.
This is just one of those films where the sequels are made to make money out of those who like more of the same please
